I mean if we spent over a million dollars for international slots it might be worth spending a million dollars for a Trump green card.

Things can change...but...this was the last I saw

Guessing 'reverb' or 'late repeaters' on the lone unsubstantiated 'rumor'...

Look at the7-13-26 MIR roster. He does not count toward Senior Roster because he is on short-term injury status. Glasgow is not on Supplemental Roster because he is on loan with terms that his exclusion. No reason to think a departure is mandatory.
Both also do not need international slots due to their current status.
Senior Roster at 19 so 1 open spot. Supplemental Roster is full at 10.
Not sure how they are treated for salary budget purposes. My best guess is that Fire has zero available GAM at this time.

Only thing that is puzzling (to me) is Franco being on the weekly injury report...I'd expect that would only include rostered players.

There's a new round of stronger rumors in the Mexican media today. Still, César Luis Merlo, who is the most reputable guy for this stuff in Latin America, came out and said that it's basically just Monterrey pushing.

Reminder that we signed him and that he committed to a stupid play against Miami that cost him the better part of a year of his career with us.

I'll take that bet! I've always felt and said, if Lewy comes Hugo gone. This wasn't hard to predict.

If I was a betting person, I would bet Hugo does not leave.
Hugo leaving makes ZERO sense, unless Hugo's who demands he be the main focus, and nothing we have seen in 2 1/2 seasons indicates that.

I am not sure what happens. Hugo seems to be humble, hard working and keeps his ego in check while absolutely delivering. That being said, his contract expires at the end of this year and he will either want a salary bump to resign or with the way he's been performing someone will offer him a nice chunk of money to move. I'd hate to see him go and hope he does not but the fact that a deadline is coming makes Lewandowski signing more logical from a footballing standpoint moving on into the future.

It doesn't really make sense to sell Hugo this season. Even if we eventually decide he and Lewy can't play together, there are so many games that both will get a good amount of playing time. Then, worst case scenario, Cuypers can be sold in winter.

I do think it's likely Hugo's representatives are already trying to get him a new deal. It would be nice if they could work something out soon.

Jesus H Dog, they have not played a second together yet. Way too early to speculate "we eventually decide he and Lewy can't play together."

    What a completely asinine statement.

I posted weeks ago when it might make sense to sell Hugo Cuypers. And it certainly was not based on your potential "decision" based on precisely nothing.

I am sure Hugo's representatives have been working on that for months, Lewandowski or no Lewandowski.

How bizarrely aggressive. It's a hypothetical that I describe as the worst case scenario, not something I am predicting. It's about as far from the fairly widespread assumption that Lewandowski's arrival means Hugo's departure as one can reasonably get.

To put it plainly, I think the plan now should be to play the two together and score a shitload of goals. My guess is that the rumors about Monterrey probably are being egged on by an agent who is working for his client, not a club that thinks they need to get rid of one forward to make room for another.

This is what I’ve been saying for months. Most people seem to have forgotten that playing with two strikers is allowed in the sport…

I'm looking forward to watching CB's around the league have to make that split second decision on which of those two the CB's are gonna commit to covering, over and over and over.

I agree, he is hard working and humble. That said, he is an efficient "poacher" striker. His skills do not afford him dropping and taking guys on "1v1." With Lewy, that service that was once only targeting him, is now halved. They play the same game: movement, positioning, and intelligent finishing with not much pace. Sure, could there be synergy up top in a 4-4-2, and could they become link-up guys ... maybe ... but if I know one thing about poacher strikers it's this. They see a glimpse of net and shoot! It's in their DNA. Assists didn't Hugo a record transfer fee to Fire and a DP spot, 40+ goals did. There is no "Golden Assist" award. If he leaves, that's not ego for me, that's just smart livelihood decision making.

The alternative is staying to play with and learn from one of the greatest to play the position he does and someone he possibly idolizes.

I think Hugo and Lewy are quite different in the Box and will compliment each other very well.

I’m excited to watch them work for each other!

Full expect both of them to make moves that will either e rewarded with service or pull defenders and make space for the other one.

As Mac97 mentioned, they going to give back lines all they can handle!

We've been rationally concerned about doing well should our one really good striker get hurt. So, now we should trade our really good striker, who is in the prime of his career, and lay everything on an really good striker who checks in at 37, going on 38?

    Nah, keep 'em both.

  22. More reports of various quality that Cuypers has agreed personal terms with Monterrey & are working on agreement with the Fire. Do your own search on Monterrey "Cuypers".

    AI says…

    What’s actually been reported:
    • Mexican outlets (Mediotiempo, Marca México, 365Scores, etc.) state that Rayados have reached an agreement with Hugo Cuypers on personal terms and contract length.[marca +2]
    • These same reports emphasize that the deal is not official yet, because Monterrey still needs to agree on the transfer fee and administrative details with Chicago Fire, who hold his rights.[365scores +3]
    • Transfer-focused sites echo that the negotiation is in an “advanced” or “final stage” status, with only “details between the clubs” pending.[transferfeed +2]

Put together, that’s a classic “advanced but not done” situation rather than pure speculation.

    Best interpretation right now
    • There appears to be a genuine, structured effort by Monterrey to sign Cuypers, including a verbal agreement on his contract.[soyfutbol +4]
    • The probability of the move looks meaningfully higher than a typical “Twitter rumor,” but until Chicago Fire and Rayados announce something, it remains an uncompleted transfer that could still fall apart on fee, foreign‑player slot issues, or last‑minute changes.[mediotiempo +5]

This link says there's an agreement between the clubs.....physical is pending and it'd be a 3yr deal for him.

Ya know, I hope this doesn't happen:(

That said, at least until we've seen the 2 of them play together!

If it's actually happening...it makes me anxious to learn what GGG has queued up...#domino
