For the truly elite I don't think it ever declines to a level that they are no longer good enough to keep playing. I think Ronaldo can play another 5 years if he avoids injury, and he will still be scoring at high level. It's either the player lacks the desire to continue playing or injuries that end the careers of legends.
Don't discount the higher amount of behind the scenes work necessary for aging athletes to maintain a high level of play. Many, if not most weigh that against family & other outside interests. Ronaldo can play another 5 years because the has no other interests except his brand.
Maybe. Or is it that a major decline still leaves enough that they get by on reputation plus merch sales?
Zlatan did as well.... What Zlatan did by coming here was get that gig on TV he has now. Lewy needs to consider life after football and the entertainment aspect of talking head/commercials/shoes etc is better here because it just is. Saudi is a big time one time cash grab. It's not sustainable over the long haul which is why MLS is a smart move for "the brand".
Lots more future commercial potential in Chicago for Lewy, also more importantly, for his wife (“ happy wife= happy life”)
This is potentially more of a factor than anyone without knowledge of the Lake Michigan sailing ‘scene’…the Mac race is ‘during the offseason’

I'll be super curious so do we think he does announce on Thursday? If so, shoutout to the journalist or article that said he would announce then haha.
I remember the post but not who or where. I dissed that post. I will happily eat crow (cooked properly) if a Thursday announcement of done deal occurs.
OnTapSports has a brief update on Franco recovery progress. My interpretation is that he is roughly on schedule but likely will not be fully recovered by second half restart date.
Some may be tired of the Messi 'gushing'...the Algerian coach's comments are more metered than the majority of the pundits, but just as appreciative. "Franco posted last week on his Instagram that he is going to be in a more aggressive step of his rehab process when the team returns from the World Cup break, though that does not appear to mean he will be ready to play for at least another month. "
