Durnit Jiggly that made entirely too much sense to me. Grrr I want Lewy but dammit...I...think you are right. It is Not the 2 striker system (which I like but apparently everyone else does not)...but yes...I often think of how much players look good because they are all surrounded with top world players. Lewy would still do excellent in Chicago...but...I do not believe it would be Cuypers gets the same goals as usual and Lewy gets even more. At this point also...I LOVE Cuypers and want to hold him for years yet. Lod/Saletros would be adding to a great bench (which you need) if we got top notch CAM/CM etc. All in all...roster spot probably better used with a top mid over Lewy especially if we will no matter what play the 4-2-3-1 and cannot start two strikers.

Breaks my heart not having Lewy though....even if it makes total sense.

“We have a striker that had a concussion already this season so let’s not prepare for a potential recurrence.”

Maybe though they have an aggressive midfielder in mind.

I mean, we need a solid backup striker. Lewandowski isn't a backup.

While I am also leaning in same direction, it is not an easy clear cut decision. Lewy adds more off-field value- is it ok to sacrifice some future potential good Cuypers years for this? Also- do we know for sure that Fire cannot play 2 forward system with them? Will GGG go this route?
    Just couple of thoughts.

Two striker system when available. One when not.

We have a better chance of winning a championship with Lewandowski. If a stud midfielder shows up, move Bamba.

Bamba has been playing better this year. Would like to see more of him before any transfer decision is made.

MHS can cover that spot and if he gets hurts, an academy player can cover. Our midfield academy players are better than our backup strikers.

Lewandowski brings so much no one else will. Lewandowski will push Cuypers. He will lead us to championship games. If an equivalent midfielder becomes available you get Lewandowski AND this ephemeral midfielder.

If we could replace Bamba with a Dreyer, Evander, Mukhtar, Puig kinda player AND sign Lewy....we would have a roster that would compete for trophies.

Not 'wishing Bamba gone', just agreeing that it would probably be required to get to what we are dreaming about.

The Fire get off to their best start in a decade and a half and we already wanna tear it down, apparently.

NOBODY wants to tear anything down.

We want to add to the team.

Lewandowski would not diminish Cuypers. He would not impede Cuypers. He would help Cuypers.

Anyone who would NOT want to sign one of the top three goal scorers over the past 15, and the one NOT named Messi or Ronaldo, who is Polish, coming to the world's largest Polish community outside of Poland, has starred for Bayern and Barcelona and who will not be in the World Cup (and, thus, not facing potential injury as a result) is absolutely and precisely nuts.

Even Bamba's biggest detractor around here stated immediately prior to your post, "Not 'wishing Bamba gone'."

So, I really do not see anyone talking about wanting to "tear it down." That is not "apparent" to me in the least.

If Lewandowski is available, you get him.
If Lewandowski and a Franco equivalent are available, you move Bamba and get both.

    It’s not too tough.

These are all moot points. Lewandowski doesn't want to come to the fire. I never believed he did. I'm sure the for offer him a contract but like most players, the fire would not be their first choice in MLS. I'm sure he'd team up with Messi and be their 13th dp though. Probably LAFC as well.

If Lewandowski was a Midfielder it would make sense.. Even at 40 Modric is proving to be an effective player...Im not sure that would be the case with Lewy here without the proper service.

But Maybe him and Zink would do stellar.. I think it would be worth the risk BUT NOT at the expense of Cuypers.

    Agreed all around.

Modric can still play at a high level and would elevate everyone on the field. Would like him suiting up for the Fire even today.

With Franco coming back, plus Zinckernagel (15 assists last year) and Bamba (10 assists last season), I don't think service will be a problem.

I do not want to risk Cuypers, either. I am going on the presumption that Lewandowski and Cuypers would play together well.

Anyone asked Coach what his thoughts were on two forwards IF we signed Lewy?

If Lothar Mattheus is available, you get him. If Lorenzo Insigne is available, you get him. If Xherdan Shaqiri is available, you get him. Those were all common sense answers before those teams "got him" and then suddenly everything changed.

The question isn't about whether or not Lewandowski is world class, it's not even whether or not he will still be the same player while in Chicago. The question is what do you leave on the table if you care more about what sales and "activations" you can have because you signed a popular player instead of looking at the roster and thinking of what holes you can fill. It's about how do you add in a way that makes sense for the roster you currently have? How do you add competition without upsetting the vibes of the locker room?

I really wanted Lewandowski, too. I also really wanted to be with my high school crush (which, as we all know, was Daisy Ridley). But at some point, you realize that the time has passed and you're no longer in a position where that makes sense. You let it go.

The presumption that they would play well together, the assumption that GGG will play 2 forwards, the assumption that Franco will recover enough to fill the midfield hole. Lots of assumptions is why it is such a difficult question.
Good to see you keeping the focus on who will benefit the team the most rather than who is better-Cuypers or Lewy?

Last year everyone was fine getting Franco even though we had Guti in the same position and it ended up and needed Guti because Franco got injured. If Cuypers gets injured it could be beneficial to have Lewandowski. Doesn't necessarily mean we have to unload Cuypers just because we get Lewandowski.

The difference is that this is MLS and we have specific roster slots. Neither Guti or Franco were DPs. Cuypers is a DP and Lewandowski would be a DP. It's not normally a good idea to be using a DP slot on two players in the same position, you wanna try to spread it around a little.

Acquiring one Big DP has been contemplated by the Fire for a while now and sufficient Roster Resources ( GAM, roster spot, etc.) are available and the acquisition is reasonably doable.
To add both Lewy and “ Weston” would likely require a transfer of Bamba (or Cuypers?) which has repercussions. With Bamba gone, the Fire would need to start MHS all matches (which is not that bad) and but also greatly reduce the quality of their backup winger ( which is bad).
Just another piece of the puzzle.
