I have not found an MLS rule relating to “Mutual Termination”. It may be covered under “Buyout” paragraph (or not). Whatever the result, it would only be for balance of season and relate only to DP Salary Budget Charge or $683,750 per year. Thus, the impact would be quite small.
It is not covered under a buyout. We have had 1 buyout and 2 (Shaq + Torres) mutual terminations this year. You only get 1 buyout per season, they proposed to change it to 2 but that didn't pass. A mutual termination is as it seems, the contract is over. MLS no longer issues Shaq a paycheck.
Think there is agreement it is not the “1 Buyout”. Questions are relating to roster spots and Salary Budget Charges and DP slot and other MLS rules are regarding “ Mutual Termination”.
Not finding too much information on Ariel Lassiter so far. Seems like he is very fast, ambidextrous but prefers left foot and has a high work rate. He is rated low on defense but said to be improving now that he plays LWB for Montreal. Seems to have potential to help Fire. Still somewhat mystified by his low salary and relatively large number of teams. Not trying to find something bad about him, just looking for an answer. Whatever the reason, he should be judged by what does for the Fire.
The theory that Fire will not sign any new players until after the front office/coaching changes have been made has been mentioned by many and has some validity. On the other hand, a high-quality DP #8/#10 should be a highly desirable addition to Fire roster for any coach. This addition would be beneficial under any strategy or any formation the new coach might utilize. Not suggesting Heitz should sign someone. Absolutely not! But maybe Joe could ask the talent scouts to prepare a list of prospects and Joe could talk with them a little. Not exactly sure how this would work. Just trying to make progress sooner rather than later.
What is this weird silliness? It makes almost no sense. What it sounds like you’re saying is that you want some rumors to satiate your transfer window boredom?
What really makes no sense in your inability to post in a civil manner! No need for insults. I can understand that Fire may not want to sign anybody now, but they should still be scouting prospects. (You would think it is not necessary to suggest this, but the past would allow people to believe nothing gets done in a timely manner.)
well, window is closed now so the discussion is largely moot unless we go a long stretch without a replacement come the offseason I'm underwhelmed by GGG's time in Columbus, but don't know anything about the strength of his roster he lives in Chicago, is without a job, supposedly Joe has long been a fan -- kinda feels like he's the clubhouse leader
Sorry. I was really trying to untwist the logic and intent. Personally, if a replacement popped up I’d say sign them.
Some players might be reluctant to sign until head coach situation resolved, but if it is the right deal-sure.
"Resolved"?!? Do you doubt that the Fire conducted a "thorough process with numerous well qualified candidates"?!? Or that "Frank Klopas is the right person to lead the team"?!? Come on, sir. The Fire officially stated it! https://www.chicagofirefc.com/news/chicago-fire-fc-names-frank-klopas-head-coach
Thinking ahead to match on Saturday. Gasper apparently still in recovery mode. Are there any other Fire players injured or still recovering from injuries? If not, this could be the healthiest they have been in years.
why is Gasper not on IR or whatever injury mechanism allows for an open roster spot? or is there no such thing in MLS?
I think I saw Herbers was limited in practice. It would have to be season ending IR to pick up a roster spot. There's several Fire II players I would love to have on first team contracts. Whether or not he's healthy I would be happy to stash Gaspar on SEIR to sign them.
There is a MLS rule but player must be declared unavailable for entire remainder of season in order to free up a roster spot. I believe he is starting to practice. He may yet play some this season, or not. Guessing that recovery process taking much longer than initially expected and, because of this, the Fire did not put him on season-ending IR. Just a guess because they choose not to tell us anything.
yeah, definitley if Gaspar was part of the long-term plans for the team then maybe you keep him on the roster to play the last few games and develop some chemistry but he's not, so unless they severely misjudged the injury then seems like a bad move not to have ended his season a while ago
The only reason he's here is that somehow he only takes up a supplemental spot even though he's getting paid $250k, maybe more.
Both Capology and the Fire acquisition announcement say his contract goes to 12-25. The MLSPA salary release says his base salary is $500k and his total guaranteed is $525k. Somewhere I read/ heard his old team was paying about one-half of his salary for this year. Not sure if that will also happen next year or not. He must have been considered a good prospect because Minnesota U paid the Fire $50k GAM so they could draft him in 2019. I am also unsure why he is on the Supplemental roster. Unless something changes, he will likely be viewed as another “special gift” from Heitz.
