Projecting GGG aims for a 4-3-3 with a 6 and 2 8s, I'm not sure if Guti will play an 8 or a wing...but thinking GGG will want more defense from the 8s than Guti is likely to bring. So... Need 2 8s, a LCB, a RB & ideally an upgrade at RW (MHS is good depth).
gotta assume GGG keeps his play-out-of-the-back style with the Fire, which doesn't bode well for Dowd
And means Brady has work to do! Been a while since we've had a keeper that is "competent" with the ball at their feet...hell, any distribution beyond a 15yrd roll has been a soft spot for a while. Note: I like Chris Brady and am looking forward to him continuing to grow!
It is way too early to start projecting starting line ups. It's a waste of time. I full expect the team to look very different than it does today.
Not really...GGG is well known for running 4-2-3-1 and 4-3-3 formations...comparing that with who's on the roster can imply priority need/direction.
Of course, it is. We have NO clue who will actually be on the team by the time the team begins training for 2025. Anything at this point is fantasy. Basically, anything could happen between now and late January or so. It would not be a surprise if Cuypers was sold in January. Again, I suspect he might want to go back to Europe. Sadly, he didn't have a strong enough season to add to his value. It would not be a surprise if MHS was gone. I hope not, but we will see. It would only be a slight surprise if Gutierrez was gone. As I said in my overview, I doubt he goes abroad, but maybe a team see long term value and wants him, whether in Mexico or Europe. We are a tabula rasa at the moment.
There are definitely numerous possibilities, but not really starting from nothing. If you were “Big C’s Used Autos” and your banker said you have to liquidate your questionable existing car inventory before he will give you any more money, would you want him to allow 1 year to accomplish this task or only one month? Forced immediate roster liquidation may not be the best way. Same principle applies to new acquisitions. Let them happen in an efficient manner.
Thank you for preparing this to help everyone focus on the current Fire roster situation. Changes can easily change this and are certainly possible, but this visualization is helpful despite that. I agree that Fire currently need 2 new CMs (including an offensive DP), a LCB and a RB and it hard to imagine developments changing this fact.
I know Fire sometimes does things for a good reason which is not apparent to me. I still wish the roster decisions could have been announced one match earlier, ( even if they had to be characterized as proposed) and then have some/most/all of the departing players play one final match. Many of these tried their best but just did not have quite enough for this level. Lord knows the match outcome was totally meaningless!
That is not the same principle at all. We have to clear out players before we can add players. We have a limited number of spots available at the moment. We are not "liquidating" and it certainly is not forced. We are talking about an owner with almost limitless funds, not a "banker saying you have to liquidate..." We are talking about an owner who is expressing his ambition. We have a new coach who will want "his" players. We have the worst team in the Eastern Conference. And, most importantly, we have Tyrus Rose (yes, the Tyrus Rose) saying we will have an entirely new roster! If you cannot trust Tyrus Rose, who is never wrong...ever! who can you trust? The quote from the invariably correct Tyrus Rose (link in the Berhalter thread): "Expect an entirely new roster for next season. Some pieces will stick around, but a good chunk will be moved out. Gregg’s plan doesn’t involve most of these guys."
Well, those were the easy and quick decisions. I'm sad about Rafa because I thought he was the heart of the team for a bit. He has definitely lost a step, but a good CB. It is nice not having 4 GK on the roster when you have a young guy like Brady and some players at Fire II that look capable. Dean and Gal are probably very cheap salaries without looking at them. I'm surprised about negotiating with Omsberg given his recent health issues, but I guess since he would be a free agent, maybe it makes sense.
Relax! Why take everything so literal? Only saying don’t press unnecessarily, let some things come to you.
I like Wyatt... He has had some impressive 'baller' moments, that make you think he could be a starter... And he's 'cheap'... Bonus, Rafa had stated he was 'easy to play with', or something like that, that indicated 'light bulb on'...
No basis for this feeling but, I could see him being more helpful in the development of younger CBs (Teran, Konincks, Shannon, etc.) than Salquist.
no problems with Wyatt as primary CB back-up -- he can play both CB positions competently, has good size, and seems like a good dude/teammate he had the lowest contract for the senior roster last year and coming back in a similar fashion is completely okay with me
Not to mention Omsburg is a better player than Salquist. Maybe they were overly fixated on getting Salquist here that they missed that he may not be the level of player they thought they were getting.
sure and better aerial skills to score on corners and better long ball passing out of the back and a better health record and so on he is what he is and I'm fine with brining him back in line with what his contract has been -- which I can't say for a lot of guys on the roster
Agree. I only mentioned speed because he is likely to only be used in late game situations and his lack of speed is especially troublesome precisely then.
