Do we know they were ‘not looking for a DP9’???? My understanding is they missed on their striker targets and then scrambled to fill a need (Jairo and Fabi played CDM way too many times) with a decent player on a low commitment contract
I think the story about missing a striker and then quickly filling the gap was just made up and posted on Twitter.
Correct. He could have overruled coaches, scouts and staff but did not. We probably all believe he should have but that isn’t necessarily the organization we want either.
This is definitely not the organization we want, not that it seems to matter. It is not like the need for a DP9 is going to magically disappear if they just wait long enough.
I do not understand your comment at all. How was it a priority to do nothing for six months then make a deal for a player not needed instead of filling a crying need. In addition to qualifying for playoffs, Fire would have learned about some of the current players. No longer could this lame excuse be used- “he played well but he would have been so much better if he had better teammates.”
In the last window, the technical staff prioritized an upgrade at midfield over a DP9. I’m honestly not sure why this is confusing or how it involves Shaqiri.
Even if they said that, it is not what the team needs. No way Doumbia is what Fire needed and still needs.Sorry, almost forgot-Heitz! Why would he get it right this time? Shaqiri, huh! What about MHS and Gutierrez?
I think we were all in agreement that we needed a striker. News/Rumor: 2024 Chicago Fire Roster Speculation
Needed?!? Need! But wait, wait, wait a damned minute! We might be signing Tom Barlow! Yes, THE Tom Barlow. F@$# Lewandowski, we will have Tom Barlow!
No...that's where you lost me. My local Beverage Barn used to have 8 coolers full of beer with 3 carrying domestic swill and 5 dedicated to microbrews. Over the past 2 years I've watched those 2 coolers that had White Claw and other similar wine coolers expand into the microbrew section to where there's now 5 coolers of wine cooler type offerings while the microbrew has been halved in stock and domestic beer holding firm. Kind of a bummer.
I hoped that where you were heading. The explosion of "hard seltzer" (many microbreweries are making them) is a scourge. I will drink one on occasion, but can't say I "like" them. Now, the "new" thing around here is a plethora of canned cocktails. The local distillery has a few that are pretty good. Most are just crap.
I would prefer to have taken a flyer on Hoppe instead of Barlow, though I admit that is based on the flashes he showed with the USMNT. He might be a locker room cancer for all I know. But at least I know that he was assessed to have talent and he's still young enough that it could still blossom. Isn't Barlow 28? He's at his peak. Hoppe is still in his early 20s.
