Are you thinking 3-5W-2 instead of 3-5M-2? Kellyn started over Fabio at RAM in a 3-5M-2 against the Quakes…didn’t go so well. For a 3-5W-2 it looks like the LCB and RCB would need to cover more ground to free the wing backs up…not confident we have the CB legs for that.
This formation but I would expect my CBs, DMs and outside mids to have enough of a soccer IQ to coordinate who and when would attack and who and when would stay back.
If we did that 3-5W-2 I would prefer Fede as one of the CDM's. He is way faster then either of the others and can run all day when not injured. I am not sure he is more dangerous for carding then Acosta at this rate. I am not really interested in Acosta as a CDM for that matter in any formation.
Fede offers nothing going forward, but Acosta has done diddlysquat in that category himself this season his back-passing reminds me of early Gaston who rarely did anything going forward, though has since improved
Happy to see that Oregel is on the US U-20 team. Chance for him to continue his development and gives him recognition for past performance. Glad that Fire released him. Failure by teams to do so can negatively impact the chance of future callups.
Probably better players than Oregel weren't released. I'm very glad to see him go, though. This season Fire II seems to be square pegging him as a #6. I don't get it unless it's because there aren't any better candidates besides academy grads.

Doyle article listed moves each MLS team should make now. For Fire, he said none should be made (until after Heitz is gone).
Another one "slips away.' 🚨🇺🇸 EXCL: LA Galaxy are closing in on deal to sign Marco Reus as free agent!Final details being sorted, still some work to do with player and his camp but LA Galaxy now close to getting it done.Reus, ready to move to MLS 🇩🇪Here we go, expected soon. pic.twitter.com/A9SUjmNe3j— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) July 17, 2024 At 35, a bit long in the tooth, but a heck of a player. Played in the Champions League Final just last month.
MLS officially announced roster rule changes. Teams are now permitted either of these two options:- 3 Designated Players + 3 U-22 Initiative slotsOR- 2 DPs + 4 U-22 + $2m GAM pic.twitter.com/QbrkppjG0K— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) July 18, 2024 thre has to be a better system -- so convoluted
MLS announcement says choice of 3 DPs plus 3 U22s OR 2 DPs plus 4 U22s plus $2million GAM (only 1m in 2024). Also announced “Sales GAM” limit increased to $3 million. No mention of 2nd Buyout. Fire could have used that, especially if it could be used on Heitz.
ESPN article says the reason the 2nd Buyout was voted down was due to pushback that it would reward teams for making mistakes. I hope they were looking at Heitz when they said that in the meeting.
I am good with the new updated rules. I truly do not want MLS to go to no salary cap or even something resembling it.
Part of me likes no cap just because the labor should be able to share in the wealth as best as they can. A cap just gives owners the potential of unlimited growth while hindering the players. That said, I don’t want the extremes we see in some other sports. It sucks. But I do like this updated rule. I wouldn’t mind 4 DPs and an extra buyout. I also wouldn’t mind pro/rel. but I’ll take this.
but there is something that keeps that without the millions of byzantine rules you could have a salary cap, a salary floor, and 3 or 4 DP spots that didn't count toward the cap no GAM, no TAM, no u-22, no Homegrown, etc
