Portsmouth coach Paul Groves says Angelos Basinas has a big role to play this season. Groves was impressed with the former AEK Athens man's impact against the Black Cats and admits he could have a bigger role to play throughout the rest of the season. He said: "His use of the ball was good, which has never been in doubt. "I thought he brought a calming influence at important times of the game and he used his experience. "Each midfield player brings different strengths to the team. Basinas brings calmness. Give him time on the ball and he'll pick people out. "Whether or not he gets a run remains to be seen in terms of who the manager picks for the games we've got coming. "But he has shown he is more than capable of coming into the team and keeping his place." Having been largely overlooked by manager Avram Grant and his predecessor Paul Hart, Basinas' attitude has impressed Groves this term. He added: "Bas has found it difficult to get into the team, but to his credit, he has been around the group and conducted himself fantastically well. That's not always the case with some players, so credit to him. "He's a professional in everything that he does. He works hard on the training ground and he makes sure he looks after himself. "When he goes out on the pitch, he wants to win." More...
