No, really. "(We) had been getting along so well. Everything had been great," Roach told the Review-Journal. "Then all of a sudden, everything stopped. He got the tattoo on his face and he quit coming to the gym. Then he says he doesn't want me to do the road work with him because he's running at 2 in the morning instead of 5 in the morning." See, everything was going good for his fight next week with Etienne. Then he stopped showing up to the gym. Then he skipped his flight to Memphis. Then he got a tatoo on his face. Now the fight is in "jeopardy" because he's not "in shape" Go figure. http://espn.go.com/boxing/news/2003/0216/1509902.html
Mike Tyson is on the same list of mine that also contains Tonya Harding, Michael Jackson, and OJ Simpson. The list being, the list of people that if I never ever ever heard their name mentioned in public or in the news, it would be a very good thing. Tyson is merely a traveling freak show now.
One of these days we're going to wake up to hear that Mike Tyson is dead, through outright suicide or self-destruction. Then, we'll be inundated with retrospectives about how we all saw it coming and everybody was powerless to stop it.
My question here is why we keep paying attention to him, thus preventing him from going away? How many strikes does this man get before he's out? How many comebacks? Why are there still people willing to pay money to see him? It boggles the mind, doesn't it?
Hopefully his career is over. Okay there's really no odd behavior going on here,he's just being Mike Tyson. What really strikes me as odd is this tattoo on the side of his face. When are we going to get to see that?Anyone know what it is?
Re: Re: Hopefully his career is over. Holy sh!t, now THAT'S ugly. Maybe his next gig will be scaring the unruly children at Chuck E. Cheese's.
The London Daily Mirror is reporting that Tyson stopped taking his psychotropic medication, which is the cause for the (even more than usual) bizarre behavior. Reportedly, he quit training altogether and went on a "gluttonous binge" packing on almost 20 pounds from non-stop eating. Apparently though he has been pressured into going on with the fight and has arrived in Memphis saying he is ready to get into the ring with Etienne. Etienne, however, says that he was told by Tyson's people on Sunday that the fight was off, and so he's not fighting anybody. Showtime executives say they have four other guys willing to step in if Etienne won't go. ESPN reports that some of the pressure on Tyson somes from the fact that he is late on a payment of $6.5 million to Robin Givens. This has all the makings of a really first-rate train wreck. Fortunately, Showtime is assuring everyone that the undercard, featuring Tonya Harding, is still on no matter what.
i thought this thread was going to be about him doing something normal, so it would be odd behavior for him
you know, i'm often a bit flabbergasted that we don't have more boxers like tyson i mean, we are talking about a sport where the contestants are paid to beat the other guy senseless, while taking all the pounding that he gives you that should mean we are really, really scrapping the bottom of the barrel... aren't there more freaks out there, or what?
Re: Re: Hopefully his career is over. This is a better photo. Am I the one person think that his tattoo is cool? He reminds me of an old WWF wrestlers.
