Maybe doing some finger excercises to build up the massive strength needed to make that extra click on the mousebutton possible to view somebody's rep, could be a problem solver.

    Go buy one of these

Just because he hasn't done what you want doesn't mean he has ignored it, Hoss.

But it would be prudent for him to justify what he's done in light of the large amount of negative feedback he's gotten, no?

You could restrict newbie posts on a forum by forum basis. If someone wants to ask where to meet up with other fans, they should be able to, but I can't imagine a burning need for a newbie to start a thread in an N&A type forum.

Or you could rate limit newbies. Sort of they can only start five threads in their first 50 posts.

They alreadly explained it in the first post. They felt that it no longer was serving as they first designed it so they made this decision. You can disagree with it but they did clearly state (to me at least) why they did it.

    "Large amount"

Hah. What I've seen is a pittance. And almost as much positive response.

If you look through this thread, it's obvious that the people complaining about it are - at the least - balanced by those who either don't care or are for the changes. And just because a couple dozen or so people feel the need to announce they are leaving the site because of rep or can't possibly function without a system that tells who is popular, that can hardly outweigh the 70,000 or so registered members.

It's like most things in life - the overhwleming majority don't give a ********, but the martyrs among the crowd will try to yell loud enough to make it seem like everyone agrees with them.

Not really. He could have reset it to zero, closed any rep threads that are started and yellow-card anybody who posts in one. This would accomplish the same end without making such a large-scale change.

I disagree. Doing something like that would have been a huge drain on the mods and it would be very difficult to enforce a decision like this. I think they tried to compromise and ended up pissing alot of people off, unfortunately.

Yeah, the only real change is that people lost the rep they had, and its no longer shown in the posts. But i've already seen rep whore threads, and the people that whored before will continue to do the same. I'm sure that the people who bitched about it before will continue bitching about it. The rest of us will just go along as usual.

You're spot on Antifan. Eventually it will just be removed, which is a shame.

I live the changes I think they were all pretty prudent. I like the fact that we have updated guidelines. I think having a focus and clearly defined policies is a very good thing. I liked the old design of the front page a bit more but that's a bit of a non-issue. Everything else to me seems like a nice step in the right direction.

For those who are furious about the change in rep policy, I think that in itself is good enough reason to make the changes that were made. The fact that people took it so seriously as some mark of social status is good enough reason as any to reduce its visability.

I hope it isn't removed completely, it removes alot of clutter from the threads. "Great post, etc." Plus its a great way to send someone a quick note without the hassle of sending a PM. On the other hand, there has been some clutter of "Tried to Rep you" and "Must Spread" posts, so who knows. I personally thought showing it under the posters name was useful but apparently other people were bothered by it, i still don't understand why really. Oh well.

One thing that seems to have been forgotten is that rep was being deleted every 90 days anyway. That policy has been in effect for nearly a year.

I say rep points should be restarted and people should only be allowed to rep 3 users per month. This will cut down on abusing rep point system.I don't like the fact that you need to go to someone profile to look at their rep points.Who likes to click on people profiles anyway>?
