    As antifan amply demonstrates :D

I agree that it would add a bit of variety to have descriptions as opposed to levels - shouldn't be too hard to come up with.

I used the rep indicators like that too. I could care less if somebody had one green box or a bunch but usually a person with a red rep (and almost always when they had multiple red boxes) was a troll/nutjob/racist and not worth talking to. The new system makes it harder to screen these people out. That is fine if Mods quickly deal with that kind of poster but I can see us having even more useless threads as people get drawn into discussions with "problem" posters.

Is there a way for people to tell what posts they have been repped for?

Also, not showing the rep is fine, but I will echo that it is very important for the people who were neg repped. I think Green/Red would be a good indicator, one nipple or whatever.

Yep, on My BigSoccer. Thanks. I had one rep point before that so I thought I had already received some.

So the new system isn't in place two seconds before rep starts being handed out all over again for an inconsequential post.

The only thing worse than the rep system is people who take it seriously.

Yeah, I'm real sure that my 3 points or whatever pushed him right over the top. Now we'll never know whether he's a good moderator or not! :(

Why? Shouldn't posts be read on their own merits? If you're curious about a poster, you can look at their profile.

I think the whole rep thing would look a lot different if there was an option to do so anonymously. I think people would be more honest, for several reasons.

Otherwise, I like the clarifications provided here.

So are you saying that you don't think that way? There are hundreds of new posters coming online every week (seemingly) in the Man Utd forum, for example. If I spent the time to read every post "on its own merit" then I'd never come back to BigSoccer because I'd be buried in crap faster than you can say "olakdghiadgh". I come here because of the knowledgeable, respectable (and sometimes entertaining) posters - unfortunately that's only a handful of folks in each forum. Maybe you're different - fine - but I find it offensive for BS to legislate how I should view the boards.

Bottom line: there are many times that I do want to know how many posts some yob has while/before I read his/her post and I will make whatever reaction I want to, be it knee-jerk or not. Besides, what does BS care whether I have a knee-jerk reaction based on post count? What's it to them? I pay my bills...

Now, let's talk about the rep - why implement it at all? If (a) it isn't obviously seen, and (b) only moderators' rep really counts, then what's the point? If the rep that I, a paying subscriber, gives out is worthless, then I won't give any out (which takes it out of the equation completely) and I would assume that everyone will adopt that idea.

Please understand, monster, that I'm not really pointing any of this at you; I could've quoted half-a-thousand other posts from forums today. I just picked yours because it was in here! I'm really just bringing this up for discussion, not to say that you're wrong/right/whatever :)

Hello. How come I can no longer create new threads? I know that new users aren't able to, but I've been here for over three years.

Mabye it's because 90% of my time is in Politics and the DCU boards, but I seldom see this sort of post.

However, as someone else brought up, one or multiple red nipples are usually a pretty good indicator of the quality of poster, at least in a negative sense. IOW, while there are plenty of terrible posters with brightly lit green nipples, there are very few good posters with red ones. Never run across one, in fact.

Happens all the time in the soccer forums

Agreed. Some of the worst posters had the highest rep. However, I never saw a single poster with negative rep who didn't deserve it.
