Under Klopp he was getting way more chances, shots, goals, and assists. He couldn’t be kept out of the action.

This season he’s strangely had much less shots and chances. The same can be said for Jota. So it could be a question of what Slot wants from the centerforward.

If what he wants is good link up play and game intelligence, I would suggest that’s not the best use of Nunez. It may be more suited for a Firmino type player. I like Joao Pedro of Brighton.

yep I think this is the case. Darwin has worked hard at being a link man - some nice long-range passes and tons of effort in pressing and helping the defence - but it's absolutely not his strength.

imagine last night with both Conor and Tsimi available, or one of them and Ibou.

    this season at home, Newcastle:
    - beat Spurs
    - beat Arsenal

One has three goals in 18 games, the other has been out for two months with no return seemingly imminent. At the risk of sounding reactionary, do Liverpool need a new No.9?

    Yes.

I think I read that Chiesa has played in a number of forward positions - is CF one of them?

not saying he's the answer long term, just wondering if he could do the job in a pinch.

reminds me of LFC under Rodgers. A team that gets up for big games, but then squanders points on the minnows in the league.

Or even having another option on the wing gives us more flexibility in how we use Diaz. Some of our best performances this season have been with Diaz at centerforward.

What is this tracking? 28 appearances? Is this his last 28 across a calendar year?

This season he has 968 minutes in all comps, and 5 goals + assists.
Last season he had 3030 minutes in all comps, and 31 goals + assists.
    In between, Liverpool changed managers.

The value of him is not only in goals... we wouldn't (and shouldn't) look at just Mo's goals, either.

Isn’t he just permanently stationed in the Keita-Kewell Memorial Trainers Room?

Darwin had 31 goals in all comps last year? That sounds .... untrue.

Are you including Uruguay? If so - I think those should be excluded from the Liverpool analysis.

Al I will say was that was a hell of a game. 3-3 was prob fair given the different dominance in the halves...

would have been a great game to be at. Which sucks because a couple of months ago I had planned to try to be there and later changed my entire December plans.....

    No.

Nunez and Sala (and Jota before his injury) are actually missing more 50-50 chances than they are scoring. This amount of chances is perfectly fine. And generally we are winning our games.

Move along - nothign to see here....... IMO

I don't have the link to the original post post but I believe the comment was that Darwins slump had begun late last season and has continued this season. I believe those stats reflect his past 28 games.

Yes he scored 31 last season but those goals and frequency of scoring has dried up considerably under Slot. Discussions are re whether Darwin is suited to Slot football.

Nunez has 36 goals in 114 appearances.

His goal scoring ratio this season has decreased from 1 in 3 (first 2 seasons) to almost 1 in 6 this season

He has 76 PL appearances & 22 PL goals.

yeah - Bradley would definitely have been better in that 1st half. Still, conditions weren't exactly easy and Quansah put in an ok shift

I dunno - maybe if they buy a striker...... but they are truly lightweight up-front- and they can;t keep battering in goals from bloody semi-cheaty corners all season......

It's not just Arsenal - the whole table is...different this year...

After the leaders (LFC, on 35 points) the next three teams are currently within two points (Chel$ki and Ars at 28 MC at 26)...
Then, the next twelve teams are within 5 points of each other...from 23 points down to 18...

Happy to be at the top - with a nice cushion...but please, let's not get complacent...next game we've gotta come out strong and boss those blues...

31 goals and assists. Makes zero sense to track attackers merely by goals, it's not 1998. Especially an attacker like Darwin who has been almost as likely to show up as RW or LW as he is a 9.

Yeah, I misread that the word assist was on the next line and I completely missed it.

yes no doubt he he was pretty decent in terms of goal involvement last season. This season it's more of a struggle because our number nines are just not getting the service that they were getting previously with Klopp.

    ... and 12 assists.

"76 appearances", also known as 47 league starts and only 48.4 complete 90s. In that, he's got 34 direct goal involvements. That's a league goal or league assist every 128 minutes he's played.

Add in his contributions in other competitions, which Liverpool have done pretty well in, and aim to win every season, and it's even better.

I think it’s too early to give up on Nunez. He’s just as likely to go on a torrid run of goals as he is to continue what he’s doing. Given the other holes/question marks in the side it wouldn’t make sense to sell him now for a massive loss
