Since other club forums have this type of thread, I thought I would open a thread about transfer speculation and rumors.

Here's a story linking us to a Partuguese defender playing at Bordeaux.

    http://www.skysports.com/skysports/article/0,,55-1137412,00.html

And another one from skysports saying that Beattie would be interested in playing for us if we make an offer for him.

    http://www.skysports.com/skysports/article/0,,7-1137494,00.html

and there's also talk of Mido and Mills to SJP along with a Norwegian player or two-Morten Gamst Pedersen and Iver Strand from Tromso.

Looks like we are finally starting to see some transfer speculation in today's papers. Obviously it's all rumours but here's hoping some of them are true.

According to the Sunday Mirror, Keiron Dyer, Craig Bellamy and Titus "Shambles" Bramble are all up for sale. Not sure about the Dyer & Bellamy sale being true, but I hope we get shot of Bramble.

The Sunday Sun reports that SBR is after Bolo Zenden, Miguel from Benfica, Mario Mechiot and Danny Mills (again - I hope not though)

And the Sunday Star is reporting that SBR is interested in getting right back, Mark Delaney from Aston Villa and also interested in Marco Caneira from Portugal.

I'm sure there are other reports, but as always these can be taken with a pinch of salt.

Seems to me Newcastle could use a class CB to pair up with Woodgate.

Sky is reporting that Kluivert has stated he won't sign with Boro. Does this mean the Kluivert to Newcastle rumor will resurface?

    http://www.skysports.com/skysports/article/0,,7-1137533,00.html

Speaking of Bramble, what about shelling out 1.5 for Ipswitch's Marcus Bent?

It would only be this way for one season. If he is acquired(there are now reports of him and Ameobi being swapped), he's the replacement for Shearer. Uncle Alan has one more season and then he's retiring.

Yeah I hope they get Beattie, He looks to me like a natural sucessor to Shearer. But as PRK says It may be awkward having both Shearer and Beattie playing at the same time. Unles they get rid of Bellamy or not play him that much, which I can't see him being to happy about.

Fat Freddy has stated that Bramble, Dyer & Bellamy are not leaving after all and are not for sale. SHAME!!

I agree about Dyer and Bramble (if anyone really would pay £15m for Dyer then we shouldn't hesitate for a second), but I think that Bellamy is a vital player for us.

Without him, or a replacement who has the same sort of pace (Dyer?), we offer very little going forward, as we saw in the last half dozen or so games last season.

It would be interesting to see Beattie and Shearer with Bellamy / Dyer playing just behind them, but that would probably mean major adjustments to our playing strategy - ether three in midfield or a back three.

Don't forget that most commentators said that Keegan was mad to try playing Shearer with Ferdinand, but what a combination they were.

Too bad we couldn't have gotten that 25 million for Dyer from Manure a season or two ago, eh? :D

Good point, Beller's pace causes a lot of headaches for opposing defenses. We never seemed to get men behind defenders once Craig went out injured.

Uncle Alan and Sir Les were lethal and Beattie and Shearer could possibly produce the same results.

I agree with Wide Boy, Bellamy's pace does open up the field for us but he keeps getting dinged up. I think Kezmen has similar speed but is a better finisher. I think Kezmen and Al up top would be tough to stop. Beattie would also be a huge pick up but I think we definitely need to find Shearer’s replacement this summer and not wait until he’s gone to try and replace him.

I still insist that the club try to sign Danny Mills. He would give the club a solid, proven defender who can stay healthy, something that there are few of on Tyneside.

I have heard that Newcastle are in talks with Marseille striker Mido (but he said the same thing last year), and that we have also been linked with Miquel, Carr, Delaney, Lucas Neill, Mills, Beattie, Carrick, Govou.

Most are probably pure speculation but the club definatly need to buy new players for the new season if were gonna improve on last year.

I dont think that shearer and bellamy on the pitch at the same time would work so well unless shaerer changes his playing style slightly. with bellamy he plays slightly deeper, lokin to feed bellamy with all his pace, however when he plays with someone else without that pace we always lack something, as none of the other strikers have the same sort of pace to play off shearer the way bellamy does. Beattie would be an amazing signing, but as a replacement for shearer, not a partner.
I would love to be proved wrong though!

    Mido transfer

    from www.toon-army.co.uk

Marseille striker Mido insists he will hold talks with Newcastle within the next two weeks but James Beattie has played down talk of any move.

Mido is expected to change clubs this summer and despite offers from clubs in Turkey, Italy and Spain, he insists on a move to the Premiership.

Mido now 21 has told reporters last summer that a move to Newcastle was on the cards and although nothing much materialised last summer, Mido is adamant about Newcastle's interest this time around.

"I am interested in a move to the Premiership and Newcastle have shown an interest in me," he said.

"I am due to meet with Sir Bobby Robson to discuss things soon."

However Southampton forward James Beattie has denied rumours of a move to St James'.

26-year-old Beattie has been linked with a summer transfer to Newcastle for the past couple of seasons, but Newcastle now are determined to start planning for Alan Shearer's retirement at the end of the 04-05 season.

    Beattie commented

    "I am happy here,"

"I am contracted for another two seasons and I am sure if anything did happen, I wouldn't have a say in it anyway."

    Re: Mido transfer

At the risk of being anal....Crew, can you please merge this thread with one on general transfer speculation. We don't need more than one thread on this subject. Thanks.

I just wish Fat Freddy would do SOMETHING!

Can you picture another transfer season without any buys?

If the club stands still again, then one must suspect that the Fat One has some alterior motives, which could include getting the club in as good of fiscal shape as possible in order to sell it to some rich Russian or other suitor.

Unfortunately, yes, and if there any, they may end up being mediocre.

We can only hope. Perhaps it'll be a turn for the better.

We certainly do need a replacement for Shearer, and shouldn't leave it until next close season to sort out. Sir Bobby may think that Sherla is the man, and if he continues to improve next season perhaps he could be?

However, rather than make a lot of new signings, I would be happier if we managed to sort out our fitness issues (in terms both of strained hamstrings etc. and mentally).

If we could get Dyer, Jenas, Bellamy and Woodgate on the field regularly and playing to their real potential then we should be certs for a top four finish, regardless of any strengthening we do.

With luck, this will be the season that sees Steven Taylor make a breakthrough as a first-team player (which should mean time up for Titus) - and if Chopra doesn't do that next season will he ever?

I feel the same way, WB. If we have those names in the starting 11 on a regular basis, we will have no problems finishing near the top. I would maybe like to see us get a solid central defender and/or a replacement for Shearer. I'm still not sold on Ameobi and have really been hoping that Chops can come good. While I'm not at training to see the lad, I feel he really hasn't gotten the first team opportunities that would allow him to show if he can make an impact or not. He has had only a couple of starts and didn't get a goal and that seemed to be the end of any real first team run-outs. I say give him a few more matches and as you say, if he doesn't show us anything, it probably is the end for him at SJP.

If we're not going to spend any money, then we should invest in some new physios! I don't want another season of multiple muscle pulls/tears for some of our key players. Maybe some new trainers/physios will get the lads to do proper stretching and all of that stuff to ensure pulls and tears remain at a minimum.

It's true about Chopra, and another one to suffer like that has been Lua Lua.

It is noticeable that while SBR has shown immense patience with Ameobi, both Chopra and Lua Lua have been dropped immediately, after less than world beating performances.

The latest rumour on Lua Lua is that he wants to come back to Newcastle - I would guess that his basic salary at Portsmouth would be a lot less than at Newcastle! I would be happy with that, if he was going to be given a chance and not made to feel that he will lose his place unless he hits it off immediately. His performances for Pompey showed that when he is confident he can cause problems for Premiership defenders. If he does come back, I would like to see him tried as a winger, with simple instructions to beat his man (which he can do easily) and whip a cross in straight away.

As regards the physios, you are spot on, FD; it's just not natural to have so many people out with muscle strains.

I'd like to have E'too, Miguel and Beattie for us. E'too cover for the bellamys constant injures. Miguel for right back an push hughesy into the centre with woody and beattie as a replacement for shearer.

No Mills he's crap and a total idiot and thug that costs more games than he saves. plus the fact he won't go below £40,000 a week is a bit much for him.

Name a striker that has come from the french league and been good? Stephane Guivarch anyone?

As for all the mid table defenders like lucas neill and mark delany if they can't get into there own sides why do we want them?

    WHO NEXT COCO THE MONEKY?

I saw yesterday that Carrick was still being linked with Newcastle. Any thoughts?
