Newcastle 2 : 1 Tottenham Speed 17 Shearer 58 Dabizas (og) 73 subbed off at o rbefore halftime due to injury: Speed, Solano, Dyer Now in 4th, 3 points out of second (Chelsa/ManUre) with a game in hand. A dominating performancxe throughout the game, with the exception of the final 10 minutes or so. Could have been 3-1 Newcastle, but a fine save by Given on Poyet early in the first half kept us ahead, and a shocking Shearer miss in the middle of the second half denied us from the insurance goal. Still, excellent way to rebound after the Bolton disappointment. Jenas looked solid from the moment the second half started (he was a halftime sub) and I was very impressed with Bernard's ability to keep his cool no matter how much pulling and shoving was dealt his way by Freund. Also enjoyed Bellamy's speed as he torturted the Spurs defenders all afternoon, his looping cross to Shearer while facing a doubleteam of defenders was excellent. Howay the lads!
I felt confident throughout most of the match until the OG by Dabizas. The midfield seemed to track back more often to fill in the gaps. Lua Lua should have fed Bellamy for a third goal. That was a wicked shot in the head taken by Solano. I'm amazed that he wasn't taking off immediately. I heard afterwards that Robert took a swing at a reporter in the locker room. They later made up I think.
To the tune of The Jeffersons: We're moving on up (Moving on up!) in the Northeast side (Moving on up!)... Hopefully we continue climbing and actually challenge the title. We're about halfway through and anything's possible.
