Soccer: US beats New Zealand Jovan Kirovski scored from a corner-kick in the 65th minute as the United States beat New Zealand 2-1 in their soccer international in Virginia today. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/sports/sp...subsection=soccer&thesecondsubsection=general
reading that (and another article I've lost the link to) you'd think NZ dominated the game and were unlucky, when quite the opposite was the case.
He totally jacked the report from the AP, check it: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/soccer/us/news/2003/06/08/us_nz_ap/
They forgot to mention that the US played a lineup of made up almost entirely of 2nd tier and marginal national teamers who were unfamiliar with each other. Yet the US still dominated for most of the match and had it not been for an admirable GK performance from NZ, we could have won 4-1.
Excepting the fact that Kirovski "scored" off a cross, not a corner, and the AllBlacks held the Scots to 1-1, not 2-2, at Hampden last week, this article has about the same relevance level as some of the Welsh post-game reports from Cardiff: total disregard for what really happened. -bs
NZ Observer Good and fair analysis from the folks at The Weekly Soccer Observer, which focuses on NZ soccer. Worth reading, especially the expanded section below the box score.
Who cares if it's mentioned that we fielded the C team or whatever letter you choose? We as fans should start getting to the point where we shrug our shoulders at the outcome of such games and the following game reports: win, lose or draw. Take them for what they are...tune-ups with experimental lineups. The NZ press is happy that their boys put on a good show against a credible soccer nation. That says something in itself.
I think all of us have our rose colored glasses on for the players that we like. As a result, I usually like seeing how the opposing countries supporters or fans view the game and the result to kind of check whatever biases I may come to the door with.
huh??? corner kick? Apparently they weren't watching the match. Sounds similar to something the New York Times would publish.
Re: NZ Observer This is the best post-match summary I've read yet, and from a gaming site? I've never seen a gaming site have an actual news section where they report scores/summaries.
Re: Re: NZ Observer What gave you the impression that it is a gaming site? Did you get a pop-up for casino gambling or something? You can see the site's main page at www.soccerobserver.co.nz and access the story from there as well. I can assure you it is NOT a gaming site!
