Even accepting this proposition for the sake of argument, maybe Danny Hoesen is not full-game fit yet. He did not play during the preseason, as I recall. Nor did he train in Cancun, right? Also, I believe that a 4-4-2 with Wondo and Hoesen would likely be more effective than either of them as a lone striker.

Regardless, if the team is going to bleed three goals per game, as they have been, the striker situation becomes moot.

Not making a joke, it was recommended to me after I told my friend about how bad the Quakes are. And you're right, we'd actually have to show some ability to transcend our losing ways to be interesting enough to qualify.

I am fine with a 4-4-2. Who does he remove?

You keep the back four, you keep Judson, Espinoza, and Wondo so you are left with Magnus, Godoy and Vako of which Almeyda has stuck to two of those in all the matches. He is telling us that Vako is the worst of the attacking players by his subs. He continues to let Godoy and Wondo finish games and his first sub has been Lima who is generally not a issue on the pitch.

I have to believe he is a good coach so he must be seeing something (or forced) in keeping weak players on the pitch.

If it were up to me, I would not be starting both Eriksson and Godoy. I would play Tommy Thompson or Jackson Yueill instead, plus adding Danny Hoesen.

The Quakes cannot field a lineup with 11 players without fielding some that are weak, defined as below MLS-median quality.

In addition to this, we have 3 maybe 4 players whose best spot is the same position. Wondo, Vako, Eriksson, and TT all are suited to playing as a second striker/CAM/the guy who plays below the target striker.

And that is my point exactly. Eriksson and Godoy has started and finished all the games. Our coach is telling us they are better than anyone else on the bench.

So he either likes them on the pitch and see value in them being on the pitch or he is being forced to play them or even worse he is playing chicken with his bosses and showing them how bad they suck to force a new signing. All three of these reasons look very bad.

If MA can take our crap team and improve them to just stinky then the Front Office probably gives him nothing until the start of 2020 when Wondo is no longer around. But if we are below crap today then he forces some immediate change.

It's backfiring because Eriksson is our top scorer, as some have reminded me. :)

Yeah, despite all the criticism of them coming into the league and being just a big advertisement for the energy drink, NYRB have actually become one of the premiere teams in the league. They've figured out the right kinds of players to go after, both young and experienced, and their coaching has been excellent over the last several years.

LOL. The Red Bulls have yet to win anything of consequence. They were recently readily dispatched from the CCL, and the Quakes defeated them in their only playoff pairing (albeit nearly a decade ago). And they play in a mostly empty barn in New Jersey. (Didn't anyone else notice?) The fact that they can spank the current Quakes squad by three goals puts them on par with Minnesota United. Congratulations.

Pretty sure Minnesota United didn't win Supporters Shield in 3 of the last 6 years. Or finish top of their conference in 5 of the last 9. Nor do they hold the all time MLS record for most points with 71, set just last season.
Some argue that the Supporters Shield is the most important trophy in MLS. I disagree, I think it's second behind MLS Cup. But if we're going to say it's not even "of consequence" then it's not of consequence when the 2012 Quakes won it, either. Considering that's the only special season this iteration of the Quakes has ever had, I'd prefer not to go down that road!

They have not won, unfortunately for them, but they've made the quarter or semi-finals of the MLS Cup playoffs for the last decade, and got to the quarter finals and semi finals of the Champions League their last two appearances. That is a premiere team by MLS standards. Winning MLS Cup requires a good team, but it's also largely luck, as with any playoff series.

Frankly, it's not a good look to literally laugh at a team that has outperformed the one you support in every conceivable way. You can choose not to recognize how good the Red Bulls have been, that's up to you, but I think you do so to your detriment.

I would trade the results the Red Bulls have had over the Quakes, including 2012 every single day of the week.

Oh, and they've managed to have some of the most prolific goal scorers in the league over that time, too, so not only have they had success in their results, they've been entertaining during most of it as well.

Well, I didn't get to watch the game because Dish dropped Univision, but didn't tell me. With the monthly fees going up each year with no additional benefits, it's about time to drop Dish.

Of course, after seeing the score and reading your posts, I may have to thank Dish!

Quakes have two stars above their crest, and Red Bulls fans cannot employ an avatar like mine. The reasons go well beyond the stars, as I've explained many times over the years, but I would not trade my fandom of the Quakes to be a Red Bulls fan, even though they never have to worry about a kit or stadium sponsor.

Funny how no one has commented on the fact that oh-so-great Red Bulls, defending Supporters Shield winners, have a mostly empty New Jersey abode. Could it be because they are a perpetual giant tease? The San Jose Sharks of MLS.

I'm pretty confident that if the Quakes were being dispatched annually in the playoffs without ever winning the big dance, this place would be a whine-fest of equal or greater degree than it is now.

I repeat, the Quakes suck, but we still have it better than any other fan base in MLS. I ain't trading with nobody. But you be my guest.

1st team needs to lay the ground work for a new style of play & team identity .. so I'm not surprised that Almeyda is playing his most experienced players in the "spine" of the team.

I agree with your sentiments; but I don't recall anyone on this thread saying this ..
The Quake have a new coach & they have a rebuild on their hands. There is a load that goes into it.We fans are just trying to read the tea leaves as the rebuild efforts unfold. It is a very slow process to change out your roster in the MLS i.e., salary cap and all.

My reaction, precisely, to the foul-mouthed ingrates in Atlanta who call themselves fans. Some folks will never be happy. By the way, for all our woes, the Quakes are only two-points back in the standings to mighty Atlanta United.

Any of you can jump off the Quakes bandwagon any time you like. But the grass ain't greener elsewhere.

    Saying what?

There's a constant drum beat on this board about how much better other fans have it.

Here's a news flash: they're all unhappy. All of them. In Atlanta. In New Jersey. In Toronto. All across the league. What have you done for me lately? That's the mantra.

Actually the soccer episode about a lower level English football team was very entertaining.

I know Wondo won't be here is four years so what's your point?

Hoesen is 28, Vako is 26, TT is 23, they all stand a great chance of being here for four years and implementing any system you want. Wondo, Godoy and Eriksson should be long gone very soon.

And it is the same in all sports. There will always be those who will bitch about something no matter how good they have it.
