Enjoy the match...that's about all there is to enjoy there.

My brother lives in Harrisburg...he says the most fun thing to do, on any night of the week, is LEAVE HARRISBURG.

I have spent my share of weekends there, too...not alot happening. Last time I was there, cow-tipping was all the rage.

(I so badly wish that last statement was a joke about H'burg being a hick town...sadly, it was not.)

I'm going down for Major League Soccer Talk .com and for all of us. Is your brother going to the game? I saw on my mapquest their is a four block walk to the hotels on South 2nd St. & it's a two block walk to cross the bridges to the sports island complex.

How's the city at night if your brother knows? o.k.? Could he help out?

    ONCE AGAIN! HIGHWAY F'EN ROBBERY!

If RBNY defeats Harrisburg in the 3rd round, the club has to travel to either Richmond, Va. to face the Kickers on Tuesday, July 6th or To Geroge Mason U against DC United on Wednesday, July 7th for the Quarterfinals.

SOMEONE DOESN'T WANT THE RED BULLS TO HOST A US OPEN CUP PROPER MATCH AT RED BULL ARENA!

    GIO...

...spoke with my brother today. He drives a tractor trailer cross country and, sadly, will be heading out west next week, so he won't be at the match (and I'll be working all week as well, so I'm out for this...but I may be up for a roadtrip to Virginia). But I'll talk to him and get the new cool places to hang...last time I went, we pretty much just hit the bars along 2nd Street. Plenty of decent spots...could make for a pretty good pub crawl.

Thanks for the help. What's Harrisburg at night? Have you been there before? or never. Do you know if it's a good city or a safe city?

One good thing about the game being on City Island is that you can walk from the soccer field across the bridge back downtown to your hotel. So.... if you were to drink a few alcoholic beverages you would not need to drive back or get a taxi.

There are a few bars in downtown Harrisburg you could go to after the match. There are also a few decdent restaurants on either side of the river that you could hit up before the match. It is a "City" but not as big as Philly, New York, or Pittsburgh obviously. The surrounding area can be a bit cow-patty-ish but for the most part it isn't too bad. For quick food beforehand you could do a bar/pub in the city. For a better real meal you can hot the Rock Bass Grill on the opposite shore of the river. It has great steaks and seafood. You can also sit right on their deck overlooking the water.

The soccer field is located next to the newly renovated baseball stadium. If you have never been there before it is on City Island in the middle of the Susquehanna river. There is a park, minigolf course, train, merry go round (if you have kids), baseball field and soccer field.

I would think the hot tickey would be take the train to H'burg. Stay in a hotel downtown, walk to the field across the bridge and hit up an bar/pu after the match.

Not the worlds greatest coverage but I will have photos, videos, and a brief match report following the game on my City Islanders blog by eitehr tuesday night or wednesday morning.

For us being a USL-2 club, this is a HUGE match. We have never hosted an MLS club at our home field in the Open Cup. We only played D.C. United there in a friendly years back and oddly enough will be hosting the Union in a friendly later next month.

I understand for the Red Bulls this is more a chance for the second string players to get some playing time but our fans are pretty excited. Obvously we want our boys to try and upset the Red Bulls but it is also a cool chance for us to see an MLS club in action.

We have Danny Cepero and Jeritt Thayer on our team. Obviously you know who Danny is and Jeritt spent time with the Red Bulls reserve team 2 years ago. We have had Nick Zimmerman with us on loan from the Union this season and he has done well scoring 2 goals in 2 matches but he will NOT be with us tuesday.

For a USL-2 venue Skyline Sports Complex on City Island is actually pretty cool. Hope to meet some of you and maybe share a beer!

Nah, no safety worries...you'll be alright. The post above from dmeluzio gives much more info than I could have (nice one!) - I've been there, but never to the area of the stadium(s). My brother lives in Paxtang (a suburb just east), so we only go to the "city proper" for the bars, really. Only other bit of H'burg I've seen is the airport.

I've been a few times but, with family down there, it most often ends up being bbq's, hanging with the kids and, as stated above, the occasional jaunt to the downtown area. The city's website can probably provide decent info on places to eat/drink/play/stay, and rely on the locals to get you where you need to go...everyone seems a really good sort down there (that is, I've never had an issue but, then again, when I'm there, I'm always with a "local").

I second that... Thanks! BTW our "second stringers" a.k.a. Baby Bulls are as good if not better than our 1st team!

I have some friends coming to the match that have never been to a City Islanders game before and they are ONLY coming because they wanna see the Red Bulls play. They are asking me who they can expect to see play for New York.

Not holding you to it, but in your best opinion what mix of players do you expect to take the field?

I will be there as a fan and also taking photos and videos for my City Islanders blog. Hope to meet some of you. BTW, I will have a mini-interview with former New York Red Bull reserve player Jeritt Thayer posted soon.

    Thanks in advance.

Tony Tchani, Brian Nielsen, Conor Chinn, Jeremy Hall, Andrew Boyens, Seth Stammler, John wolyniec. Juan Pablo Angel might come off the bench if he is needed.

Good job. Got my ticket for Amtrak and hotel reservation. It should be a fun time. I contacted the Islanders on their phone number and the woman who is the GM on my website information with who I'm writting for. Kierstin Rowe is her name.

Is their front office reliable people or will I have a problem getting a credential. I called them up this past Thursday.

My wife and I are taking a road trip tomorrow to this one. Who else? And, can anyone recommend a good place for a pre-game meal?

You may want to email her a reminder but they are usualy pretty reliable. They would never blow you off on purpose but it is a USL-2 club so many of the staff wear multiple hats and are busy near game dates.

Most league home matches for Harrisburg are televised by a local TV station then available online but due to crazy copyright issues maybe with USSF this match will NOT be broadcast.

    Homebrew4U,

I posted a comment earlier in the thread about a cool place to eat. It is called the Rock Bass Grill. It is a restaurant right on the water that if you sit outside on the deck it overlooks the river and City Island. They have great seafood and also good steaks. It is located right off of the bridge that connects City Island to the one side of the river shore. You could walk across the bridge from downtown if that is where you are staying.

Just you and your wife or do you have kids also? If you have kids you can ride the train, hit up the merry go round, batting cages, etc.... on City Island before the match.

After regular season matches and I assume this one also, the team has a post match party at Sam Buvvas downtown. You can go there for some beers afterwards. I realize you are Red Bull supporters so hanging out with the City Islander may not be a great idea but maybe Danny will be there.

Again, usually..... and I assume it will be the same tomorrow, after a brief break the fans are allowed onto the field to talk with the players and get autograghs. Perhaps the red bulls will do it also but at the least you could come on the field for Cepero.

    Hope this helps.

Allow me to recomend the Troegs: Sunshine Pils if they have it. Troegs is the official beer for the City Islanders (as the brewery is downtown). They usually have a light and a dark. The Sunshine Pils is good and the Dreamweaver is not too bad either.

Over on Metrofanatic, there's a group of about 20-25 going. I will be spending the day in Harrisburg apartment hunting, since my girl works there and I soon might be working there as well. Looks like we should have a sizable RB contingent going to this match.

Since this is the case, and seating is GA...where should we stand?

The one sideline has the press box on it and a hill where fans can lay out a blanket or use a camping chair. The other side has bleachers all down along it. Obviously the middle sections fill up the most but usually there is a section of bleachers that is not that full. It is section 10. You could sit there or..... you could move to the other end in the bleachers down by the one goal line. There are some City Islander supporters who usually stand in section 1 or 2 so maybe you could stand in section 3 or 4. You can see the link below for the diagram.
