Why did the league give the Metrostars 2 cities in their name? That is so stupid. If I was a Metrostars fan from New York or New Jersey I would be pissed. Do you think they will change it in the future?
They actually officially dropped the whole New York/New Jersey thing a few seasons ago. However, the moniker has stuck. As a native New Yorker, I am offended that the Metroscum besmirch the name of such a great city! The Scum play in Jersey, they stink like Jersey, they have attitudes like Jersey, they have a poor record like Jersey...Therefore they are the New Jersey Metrodonkeys! No wonder they can't draw a decent crowd - all the New Yorkers are pissed at having their good name dragged through the Swamp and affiliated with the toxic waste site that is North Jersey!
To get back onto topic as to why the Metrostars organization has NY and NJ in it.... NJ got tired of NY teams going to the Swamp because it's better than that city, but still keeping the city's name. So now it's a law that if a team plays in a NJ public facility, they must indicate the local city or state in their name. A couple of years ago, the Flyers and Sixers threatened to move across the river to Camden, and they would have needed to change their names.
