How do you think the Knicks will do this season? I personally feel this team will come together, and will be very successful. Dice is out for the season, but they have other players who can fill in. Harrison, Weatherspoon, and Doleac can replace him. Houston has to prove himself to the fans this year, therefore I expect a really great season from him. Spree will also try make the front office look bad after recieving his fine. I'm a really big Sprewell fan, but as the team leader, he has to quit non- sense. On the bench, I believe Lavor Postell will have a really great season. Last year he said he's better than both Sprewell and Houston, and proved it. He scored 19 points the night he said that. GO NY GO NY GO
The Knicks are SIMPLY a mess. Let's start off first with their salary cap situation. To say it's bloated is an overstatement. They gave Houston all that jack, and he's little more than a jumpshooter. They need front court help badly (especially since Dice is out for the year) but they have NOTHING in trade value that any other GM will take seriously. Spree and Houston basically play the same position, but they will make Latrell play the 3 spot, which is NOT his best position, since he has to go up against taller, more phyisical opponents. He's better at the 2 spot, but you can't bench Houston and his mega-million salary. Your starting center is Michael Doleac. Ugh. And no, Kurt Thomas is NOT a real center. He's a better power forward. Your choice of point guards is Charlie Ward or Howard Eisley. Double ugh. The Knicks will NOT be a serious threat for postseason play this year. As much as Knicks fans hate to consider this scenario, the team must SIMPLY REBUILD for a couple of years to be strong again.
You mean Othella Harrington and Kurt Thomas? The media tends to overrate NY athletes and although I admire your optimism, I don't see any or all of the big men making up for McDyess in the box score. Anyway, the Knicks would've been better off holding on to their pick (Nene Hilario?) rather than take an overpaid health risk. Also, history shows that while Sprewell can be of tremendous value to a contender, he's nothing but a cancer in the clubhouse when the team is losing. What's happening now with the Knicks is exactly the way it was in Golden State. I say trade him to a team that needs him before his value falls even lower. The Knicks will be bad for a few years to come - the best thing to do now is to drop the half-assed reloading business and start going young.
The NY media, and people that I talk to at work are ALREADY pinning their hopes on getting that LeBron James in the draft. Pinning your hopes on a HS senior who will play under the bright lights of NYC? I smell a VH1 "Where Are They Now: Athletes" Special in the making.
You KNOW your current season is already lost when the focus of your fans is turned towards who you can get in the draft NEXT year. My God, the Knicks suck horribly. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm waiting anxiously for the Latrell Sprewell news conference to start (allegedly he's going to set the matter straight regarding the whole yacht incident and make kiss ass amends to the Knicks organization)
I mentioned this before but I'm surprised they're not shopping Sprewell harder (or if they are, I haven't heard anything of it). He's generally happy and well behaved as long as he's on a winning team and some teams can use his instant offense and permiter defense. I'm thinking New Orleans, Detroit or Toronto, but then again, I'm not a GM.
It's gonna be REAL hard to find a taker for Spree's contract AND baggage though .... I used to like Spree, BEFORE he choked out his coach and turned punk.
