Jay Denny DOB 6.1.1986. Born In Los Angeles He is a midfielder with Stoke City and plays for their Youth teams.
Here's the text of a brief December 1999 Birmingham newspaper article about Denny (no link available) ... A STAFFORDSHIRE teenager is dreaming of life among football's glamour boys after being snapped up by a professional club. Jay Denny, aged 13, has signed for Second Division promotion hopefuls Stoke City and will ply his trade at their academy of youth. The Year Nine pupil at King Edward VI School, in Lichfield, has been football -mad since he played his first game at the age of five. Jay was spotted by a scout from the Potteries club during his first match for the Cannock district side at Chase Terrace School and after a successful six -week trial he has now been offered a two-year contract. He said: "I was shocked because I did not expect to get picked up on my first game. "But now I am very excited and for me it is like a dream come true. My long -term ambition is to break into the reserve side and then the first team. I definitely hope to go onto bigger things."
He is an U17 playing with the U19's since last season. That is pretty good. In 2001-02 Stoke City finished 8th in Group C of the FA Academy U19 League. Here were the clubs in their group: Liverpool (Didn't Zach Whitbred play for the U19's or was it the reserves?), Man United, Man City, Crewe Alexandria, Coventry, Everton, Blackburn, Bolton, and Wrexham. The U19's played 28 games last season, so this kid could be playing a lot and at a high level. The next question is...shouldn't he be in the USNT U17 set-up? Or can USYS/ODP's produce talent like the FA Academy U17's can, thus he is not needed? Does US Soccer even know he exists (they should)?
Word is Ellinger knows about this guy and plans on bringing him at some point but that he thinks he's better off at Stoke than at Bradenton and he keeps a spot open in residency for another kid.
I wasn't talking about him being in Bradenton. I was talking about him being in Finland. If Ellinger knows about the guy, then he could be in the USYNT set-up. Then again, why is he not in Finland? Yes the Finish U17 vs. the USA U17 are friendlies, but what are the U19 matches in England? How many matches would he have missed by joining up with the US U17's in Finland?
There are loads of Denny threads I could have bumped, but I chose this one to 1) note that he's still with Solihull Moors in England ahead of the 2013/14 season and 2) remind BigSoccer that it was Jay, after all, who officially kicked off Stoke City's fascination with American players! (Of course, he never appeared for the first team, but no matter...)
