The Swiss FA got the remaining CHF 6 mio. of funding necessary to build the stadium with a capacity of 40,000. Nothing stands in the way of the completion now... Stadium Website: http://www.stadion-wankdorf.ch/ Bilder=Pictures, Filme=Video
Lets hope that when it is finished, people use it. That is going to kook much nucer than the okd Wankdorf.
I figured that I should try and attempt to make my posts look a little more German! HOw did I do? Actually I just missed the correct keys and did not look over what I wrote. Sorry!
Letz zeee.... http://www.mjs.ch/mjs/wankdorf/wankdorfpics.htm For those of you that don't know, the old Wankdorf was the venue for the 1954 World Cup final. In "Das Wunder von Bern" (the miracle of Bern), West Germany pulled of one of the biggest upsets in soccer history when they beat heavily favored Hungary. Before the stadium was destroyed, there were several German fans that came down to get a piece of the field that gave them their 1st World Cup. That title meant a lot to West Germany at the time. A war-crumbled nation finally had hope again. I had the pleasure of being at this historical site in '99 at the Swiss Cupfinal.
Aren't you happy that Basel pelted Celtic in Champions League qualifying? Now you can win the Uefa Cup.
Not in the least, I would have liked to see the score with valencia settled, jammy bastards only just managed to knock us out of the uefa last season on penalties. I suppose the uefa cup will do for filling out the trophy cabinet a wee bit
Apparently the owners of the new stadium decided that a new name is in order for the 2008 Euro Cup. The stadium won't be called Wankdorf, but Stade de Suisse instead.
I remember when Michael owen played at the Wankedoff stadium.. he thought he was gonna be "pulled off" at half time.
Many fans at yesterdays game had banners saying that they did not want the name Stade de Suisse, but Wankdorf.
Well if i didnt do it someone else would, I saved them the trouble, they should be grateful ingrates....
Yeah, there is lots of oppostion (from politicians as well.) The compromise being thrown around is Stade de Suisse Wankdorf. It's mostly the sponsors that want the name Stade de Suisse, because they think it's better for marketing purposes.
