I wonder if you could squeeze "UNITED STATES" on the top bar of that badge. I think that'd look far superior to either "US SOCCER" or simply "USA." While I'm not opposed to "USA" it just sort of leaves a lot of empty space on the sides.

Good point, but that empty space also makes it easy to read from a distance. If it says USA, you'd know it from 30 meters away. Whereas UNITED STATES would just look like a bunch of lines.

I like the umbro England away kit..with the 2 saint george crosses coming off the shoulders.

    I like Germany's white..very traditional and classic.

I like Argentina's light blue and white bars w/ black shorts

yeah, I also saw the one that ties at the collar, I guess i was lucky enough to find the 1 with the red sash. I have been to a few Marshalls and a tJ Maxx and have seen some soccer clothing in all of them. I have seen for the US mainly the tie collar however.

I'm a huge fan of Portugal's white away kit that they never wear.

    YES! YES! YES!

Somebody here on BigSoccer has that as their avatar and I'm dying to know where they found it. I'd buy apparel and whatever with that on it all day long.

EDIT: OK, it's Sachen; that post is like 5 pages back. Totally great badge.

That badge was on Nike's site. They even had vans with the crest. But the "Don't Tread on Me" was covered up with tape I believe on the vans, and those crests have all been removed from NIKESOCCER.COM.

I haven't heard any reasons for the removal yet, but it's really too bad. I still have the background though that I got from the site with the crest on it.

Agreed on the retro crest and the uni. And though I love the "don't tread on me" sentiment, I think the snake might be a little abstract for those who are not similarly moved by it.

I'm definitely in favor of scrapping the current US Soccer crest. I tend to like the retro badge that was pictured on the throw-back jerseys. However, regarding the Nike crest as a potential replacement:

Call me tradional, but I don't really want a jersey with any sort of catch-phrase on it (be it on the jersey itself or the crest). That's fine for general apparel, but I can't think of any country that has some "line" plastered on their official national team kits (correct me if I'm wrong). Regardless of whether others countries do it or not, I just think it would be rather tacky.

And as for the snake...I'm not really really opposed to having an animal on the crest per-se, but there is no real symbolism between the US and a snake. I could see an eagle, perhaps, but that's pretty common. However, it at least makes more sense for our country (more people would connect with it).

Finally, with few exceptions, I pretty much hate having a soccer ball as a part of a team's logo - especially when it is a predominant feature.

Well it is not very often that one treads on an eagle. I like the snake. It is very American if if people dont understand thats what the internets for an information tool, and porn yes. US soccer has been pushed around in the past, but no more are we pushovers! Don't tread on me! I bite back! :D

    a) People who would see the crest and be confused would most likely be non-US soccer fans anyway, and thus less inclined to gather further information. They'd just think it was silly.

    b) I agree, but putting it on our uniform would really make us seem like we have a huge inferiority complex. Now, that might actually be true, but that doesn't mean we have to advertise it to everyone else.

Good points all. Maybe the "Don't Tread on Me" logo is a good alternate crest, for shirts and stuff. But on the jersey, the retro crest is definitely my favorite. It's just perfect in my eyes. USA on top in blue, red stripes below. Classic.

Give the current crest to some U12 girls team.

Probably PETA for exploiting snakes. Not even kidding. These jokers ******** their pants when a kid who claimed he'd swallow six goldfish if he won the student body election followed thorough with his pledge. PETA should "die in a fire" as one of our esteemed colleagues often says.

Treat PETA like a baby fur seal IMO.

hopefully you'll die soon of a heart attack, or colon cancer from eating all that red meat.

as for the logo i think the current one without the ball, and usa instead of us would be alright. i like the beveled stars but too bad generic nike does the jerseys, i prefer addidas.

Here's a haphazard photoshopping I threw together for a uniform idea. The original is apperently the away uniform for Juventus:

I like Juve's away kit and this "haphazard photoshopping" kicks about as much ass.

That doesn't look half bad, but I look at it and think "USWNT."

I can't articulate why I agree with you about "USWNT" . . . but I agree with you. It does look pretty sharp, though.

I was thinking more of Juve's alternate:

But if the French do it, I guess we probably shouldn't.

Plus, we don't have any Zambrotta lookalikes.
