Uniforms? I recall reading on these boards that the Fire will be in new uniforms this year (Pumas?) Is this still correct? Any chance the Fire will unveil them prior to opening Day?
yes, we are getting Puma. They are supposed to be introduced at the Superdraft which is about a week away. Hopefully they will then start selling them.
They're now scheduled to be unveiled next Wednesday afternoon locally, and also at the draft (along with the ball) next Friday. There are also uniform mockups that have been around for awhile which may or may not look like the final product. I don't have them anymore.
Seems kind of fitting that we're getting new uniforms to coincide with a new beginning in the teams history. So will there be a third (alternate) uniform this time around? I wouldn't mind seeing something with a diaganal stripe/sash.
So, Hala, Are you on Fire payroll or something? Sleeping with someone on the inside? Or just have really good hearing? Where do you get all the inside scoops?
Probably will be a third. Talking about a sky blue shirt with white shorts. I mocked something up using Lazio's jersey awhile back but it's really anyone's guess as they've kept a real tight lid on the actual inmages, so it's been mostly word-of-mouth info.
I saw a light blue Puma top with what I believe they called "white piping and lemon accents" on T.V.'s Will & Grace last night. They were playing for a gay men's soccer team, the show was pretty funny. Would they have been similar? It looked like they may have been playing with the new Puma Shudoh(?) ball or a replica. Puma must have thrown some equipment to them for free advertisement. Not trolling, just wondering if anyone else saw it? Yes, she had control of the remote.
I didn't see it either though the Mrs. usually tunes that one in. Word is that FSW's Allen Hopkins made an appearance as a soccer player.
Sounds like an old Lazio home jersey. That's kind of ironic, if that's the case, that it would be associated with a gay men's soccer team...given Lazio's traditional political/sociological tendencies.
Yeah, I saw that. I didn't take a look at the ball they were using, but I did get a good shot at the jerseys. It actually looked like a very generic top, and not something that would be used for an actual team. And on a side note, the gay soccer team, when getting ready to start the game, huddled in a circle and shouted "1-2-3: NIEMANN MARCUS!!!" I thought that was funny. Ok, continue with normal conversation. Bethany
Another side note: I liked when their player/coach said something like: "C'mon, if we beat the heteros we'll have a chance at beating the lesbians!".
From the sidebar of www.cybersoccernews.com "Chicago’s newest addition, 18-year-old midfielder and U-20 player Justin Mapp will unveil the Fire's new jersey by PUMA next week." Unless he's particularly photogenic, it seems an odd choice. You'd think they'd get the team's captai...oh.
i don't think it's an odd choice to use your newest acquisition to show off the new uni's... it's a way of showing off the new player, shows a new beginning at that
According to an inside source at Puma, there is nothing finalised yet on either the uniform or the final ball design. Trust me, I have a very good source. Might something happen in the next 3 days? Yes. But as of now, there is nothing done.
What the final design will be, I have no idea, although I hope they keep the home reds as close to what they've traditionally been as possible. Anyway, we'll all find out Wednesday at 10:30 in the morning at Lincoln Park Zoo when the Fire unveil their new kits. Like I needed more soccer jerseys to have to buy. It will be the first news of the Fire acquiring anything without giving up a starting player all offseason, so it will be exciting. Another note. I host a Sunday morning sports talk show on WLUW, 88.7 FM at 8:30 a.m. called "The Sunday Sports Shootout." I plan on talking a bit about Peter Nowak and putting together a little tribute of some audio clips from his time here with the Fire. I've covered this team since they started in 1998, so as a fan/journalist, it's hard to see a guy like that go. He certainly deserves a fond farewell. You can tune in at 8:30 am at 88.7 FM or on line at www.wluw.org . I hope the tribute lives up to Peter's accomplishments. I'll do my best.
And you should all support WLUW anyway, 'cause it's a great station. Later, COZ (has recorded a URT bumper for Radio Free Chicago)
As a former Loyola grad, I had just read that the university has stopped funding 88.7 and has entered into some sort of partnership with 'BEZ. Don't know how it's going to impact the station, but it can't be too good.
If you knew the financial issues with the university...oy. WLUW is still the university radio station. Format won';t change, and WBEZ is a public station, too, so I don't think anything will really be altered dramatically aside from the station being on more solid footing and their relocation to the Lake Shore Campus.
I got that "Christmas Eve" feeling going on. Not as much as actually on Christmas eve, but the anticipation is there.
Since I'm going to be in and out all day and everyone with an opinion is going to come crashing down on the Fire boards today, two things: - Keep all discussion of the new uniforms, posting of pictures, registering of opinions, etc, within this thread. - If you aren't a Fire fan, please take your opinion of our jerseys to the MLS boards. Not here. Thank you all in advance.
