Portuguese Midfielder Porfirio Gets Trial By Fire 09/06/03 The Chicago Fire has invited Portuguese midfielder Hugo Porfirio to train with the club this week in Lake Forest. The 29-year-old midfielder has played with Portuguese top division club Benfica since 1998 and has also spent time on loan in the English Premier League with Nottingham Forest (1999) and West Ham United (1996). Porfirio has earned two caps for the Portugal National Team and was a member of the U-23 National Team that finished fourth in the 1996 Olympics in the United States. NOTE: I looked up his stats and there are NO appearances last year...huh?
