Ledger Article Discusses the salaries and also mentions the draft pick.... http://www.nj.com/sports/ledger/index.ssf?/base/sports-0/1041319848125730.xml We have a lot of salary tied up......there is going to be another move(s).......
Vaca is still a possibility since Dallas needs an allocation to sign Stewart: http://www.northjersey.com/page.php?level_3_id=137&page=6151388
Stewart would like nice in a Metro Star jersey(not kit) but failing to fit his $ in I'd take Vaca for an allocation any day as he at least has a track record in MLS.
Stewart has said he wants to go to a warm location. Granted Jersey is hot & humid in the summertime but I wouldn't call it a warm climate Vaca - what's not to like: 20 year old who runs the entire game, passes well, will take a shot if it presents itself. He burned us for a couple this past year. We need a mixture of seasoned/proven vets as well as some young guns.
quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Originally posted by subbuteo Armas to DC Williams to Fire Eskandarian/#1 pick to MetroS -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- the fire get squat in such a trade. williams is a downgrade from armas. are they that squeezed by the cap? now dc and new york - mouthwatering if it goes through.
It must be about Cap space if it happens. Armas makes $270K and Williams makes $100K (he may re-sign for less). That $170K in savings may allow them to keep Josh Wolff (if that's what they are trying to do).
I would love for this to happen if we get to keep our #2 pick as well. Then the draft is a no-brainer: #1 - Alecko Eskandarian #2 - Ricardo Clark - best def. mid. in the draft. Starting U20 Def. Mid. Talked about by MLS Scouts as being a player ready to start in MLS right now.
Don't expect Metro to end up with the #1 and #2 picks in the draft. Their current strategy is to end up with Vaca, Alecko, and hopefully another draft pick somewhere in the first/early second round. To do this, they would like to part with just the Williamses (Andy and Richie) and the "allocation", plus maybe some minor talent or "future considerations". Any trade with DC would probably involve switching the #1 and #2 picks.
I like it. Vaca and Alecko give us a future to look forward to (Joselito won't count against the foreigner limit for a few more years either, will he?), yet can still contribute in the near-term. Dallas people say Vaca's a bit of a headcase, but he'll have his compatriot Moreno there - provided his head is screwed on straight, that's a good thing. What about that Ian Joy fella for left back?
I think I would rather see Akwari get a chance to prove himself before signing a guy who is riding the pine in the English Third Division. http://www.planetfootball.com/artic...=&cpid=218&title=Joy+to+follow+American+dream
Vaca was moved to transitional international before last season. Given the amount of playing time he had last year, he may get moved to a full int'l.
Just a side note... if Chicago is that squeezed, the league has to do something to allow players who get established at a team and play with that team for a certain number of years, to stay with those teams. There has to be some cap relief in those instances. Chicago and D.C. in earlier years have done much to develop very good talent. They shouldn't be penalized for that. OK continue
Armas to DC... maybe. Williams to Fire... maybe. But there's no way the rest of the deal would simply be #1 to NY. That means the MetroStars would be trading ABMOD straight-up for the #1 pick. If the #2 pick were to then head to DC or CHI... I could see this happening. Otherwise, keep dreaming.
good point. A pick to DC and/or to Chicago and it's a done deal. But personally, I was hoping to see Eski in a DC United uniform.
I'm not expecting it, but I am hoping for it. If it happens, it doesn't sound like it will come through DC directly but through Chicago. -DC trades #1 pick to Chicago for Armas. -Metros trade R. Williams + something to Chicago for the #1 pick. Maybe that something is the #2 pick, but if it is then we gave up too much when we traded the #5 pick for R. Williams. Or maybe that something is Mark Lisi or a future draft pick (2004). I'm hoping for this scenario. Then you have our Allocation + A. Williams to Dallas for Vaca, with Dallas picking up E. Stewart. Of course, then Dallas will be in Cap trouble, so maybe Zarco Rodriguez is on his way out.
I like most of your thinking except when you get to the dallas part...why would we have to give up A. Williams and an Allocation for Vaca, if the allocation is for ES then doesn't Dallas get the better end of the deal right there....I would rather have ES then Vaca at least for next season...a couple years down the road it could be a different story
This story is generating quite a buzz on the DC and Chicago boards as well. I have to agree that the only way this would happen is if we give up a later pick. I can't see ABMOD straight up for the #1 pick happening.
As a DC fan, you wouldn't trade ABMOD for the #1 pick in the draft? Go back to the DC boards, their "Word Association Thread" is more up your alley.
Moving on.... Get over it, Alecko will be with United for several years so New Yorkers can still see him play just not wearing the Metro's shirt. This guy is not a savior but he is the best player available in the draft and DCU knows that, it's a done deal.
