Someone on the CONCACAF board put up a thread to figure out what the best All-CONCACAF team would be. Taking that a step further, I thought of how interesting it would be to put together a tournament of all confederations with each team having no more than three players at a time from one single country. Each team could look something like this: CONCACAF: Friedel, Marquez, Pope, Suarez, Reyna, Fonseca, Wright, Donovan, Torrado, Ruiz, Radzinski CONMEBOL: Chilavert, Lucio, Placente, Carlos, Aginagua, Recoba, Rivaldo, Ortega, Forlan, Crespo UEFA: Kahn, Hierro, Riise, Ferdinand, Beckham, Ballack, Zidane, Totti, Kluivert, Kovacevic And of course an All-Star team from Asia, including Daei, Ono, Ahn, etc., and from Africa, including Kanu, Coly, Diouf, Hadji, etc. I'm a little undecided about an Oceana team considering they'd have a lot of trouble with putting together quality players outside of NZ and Australia. Anyway, for what it's worth, I know there are too many competitions as is nowadays, but still I'm sure that if it were put together, no true soccer fan would turn away. It may even be the true solution to allocating WC places!
And yes, I know there may be better players to pick but please realize that this selection is only for the sake of example. And yes, I'm aware that I've only put ten players on the UEFA and CONMEBOL squads - it was accidental but I don't think I'll be red-carded for it...
And much like baseball would make its All-Star Game winner the home-field holder for the World Series, let's have the winning confederation from this tournament be the next World Cup host confed. (Just stretching this interesting-but-off kilter idea a little.) I would rather have a true World Club Championship over another this exhibition-style tournament.

I personally would get no great kick out of UEFA winning and as for the players they have little enough of a closed season as it is. And how would it solve the problem of allocating WC places?
