Hey gang, I was wondering what the status of a possiblr new stadium is?? I thought that when Phillip A. bought the team, that he had planned on building DCU a new stadium? Anyone know what the status is? One thing for sure, whenever it does happen, hopefully that will be that last of the security issues!!! (At least, I hope?) Nothing is worse than the present company RFK uses. Anyway, I was just curious to see where things stood with a new stadium? One last thing! If we were to get a new one, where would you prefer it be? In Northern Va. in D.C. or in Md.???

I think we must remain in DC or as close as possible while being near to public transportation. Therefore the ideal spot in my mind is on the present RFK/Armory Grounds.

Haven't seen anything regarding a new stadium for DCU for awhile. There was something in the Post last week about a baseball stadium in Anacostia.
Also, isn't Anschultz involved in some kind of legal issues involving his business.

The selfish me wants the stadium in Northern VA as my wife and I are buying a new home in Fairfax County shortly. The team belongs in DC though, I love the name D.C. United and everything should be done to keep them in DC. I hope the stadium gets built there.

With LA opening theirs next season, as much as I hate to say it, the Mutts are alot closer to finalizing their deal. All efforts should be put towards making that a done deal. I think we should be in line after the donkeys.

Why would you hate to say this? The stadium issue is the one that all MLS supporters have to get behind, even in support of their biggest rivals. I hope DC loses every game they play from now to the end of the universe, but I hope they do it in a beautiful purpose-built facility with great atmosphere.

And I look forward to returning the solid that DC fans have done for the Metros in joining the letter-writing campaign to the NJ Senate. Tell me who to write and I'll send the letters off post-haste.

This post brought a smile to my face. Just a little over 24 hours ago I was hugging Metrofans as Victorine scored in front of us. Now I'm already back to wishing them ill. :)

OK, time to trot out new grist for the rumor mill...

My wife playes in a Friday night indoor league and bumped into Ali Curtis and Dan Giffin (DCU Ticket Rep Extraordinaire) at the facility two weeks ago. In speaking with Mr. G, he mentioned "an upcoming stadium announcement" early in the coming year. (BTW, she said Ali was really nice.)

Shaky, I know, and she asked me not to post it, but what did I become a Premium Member for if not to indulge in rumormongering and idle speculation? :)

Anyway, combine that with what RomaDCUnitedSaoPaulo reported his cousin the RFK worker said about "being out of here soon" (over in the "What a Heck of a Game!!!!" thread) and pretty soon you have a movement. Maybe not as strong as the Alice's Restaurant Mass-a-cree Movement, but then we don't have twenty-seven 8 by 10 color glossy photographs with circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one...

I heard a similar rumor also. Heard that DC United had asked the stadium commission what had to happen next. United/Phil is willing to pay for the stadium if DC will provide the land. United will do the leg work for environmental approvals and the like. They are hoping for 2005 season at the outside.

As mentioned previously in this thread, DC United's stadium depends on Major League Baseball. If I'm kicking in $200+ million dollars for a stadium, I don't see how DC can do anything about a SSS. That said, I'm not sure that MLB coming to town helps or hurts DC United's chances of getting a stadium. There are arguements both ways.

Dadman, don't worry about the comments. I've been hearing that from plenty of DC United's top management for years... I believe that their hope is to make something happen but that the DC Sports and Entertainment Cartel keeps stringing them along...
