Most of the New Stadium threads contain discussions on location, finance, voter approval, etc.. We should air out our wants and needs regarding the actual facilities and rules therein, since the players have all been asked their opinion's. I just have a couple to start, we Must have these European Style Premier goals:http://www.kwikgoal.com/product_2B8.html The field Must also be Huge (Major home field advantage at our elevation) at least 120 yards long, 85 yards wide. (FIFA minimum for Internationals) Make it the Azteca of North America! Maybe go bigger if possible. Oh, and while I'm at it. We should also have a large Pub with great beer, huge TVs and Rapids memorabilia that can be accessed for road games and other viewing parties. What do you guys want?
I'd also like to see an area with trees for shade where a supporters group can have a tailgate. I'd also like to see a Hall of Fame/Trophy/History area.
-Fans close to the field. -Fans no more than 2 feet above the field. -Soccer Bar with view of the field that is open 7 days a week and shows soccer only on beautiful flat screen tvs. Any hardware the Rapids win should be on display. This also seems like a good place for the Rapids hall of fame type stuff. -Nice tailgating areas. If I think of anything else I'll come back.
Decent concessions - most importantly, stands that sell GOOD beer - like the few that they have at Invesco...where I can get a Guinness. Otherwise, I mostly care about how close I am to the action, and that the layout of the place (including parking and access to highways!) be well thought out and flow nicely (I've never understood why a Rapids game with 20,000 fans takes twice or three times as long as a Rockies Game with 40,000 fans - at least the ones I've been to - to get out of the parking lots...oh wait, I do know...the Rockies have actual police officers directing traffic and controlling traffic signals, and the Rapids have guys in yellow shirts who lifelessly waive their flags back and forth). I am not too picky about the stadium itself. But even though we are in the front row of our section (123...I guess its technically row 4, but the handicapp access section is in front of us...I suppose if Pele ever came to our stadium, they'd put him there with the plants and flowers that always seem to grace the area around his seat , I feel like we are WAY back. The seats are too high up (which probably makes a lot of sense for football games - especially with players and others wandering the sidelines) and waaaay too far back. Its hard to heckle the other team and to ask Denton to please not svck quite so much from so far back. On the other hand, I would like the stadium to be equiped for good videography and sound (for television broadcasts). Ie, I want the stadium equiped so that if I sit on the field side seats (or if our seats are actually close enough to have this matter), I don't want to have to crane my neck around the guy with the plastic sound dish. Finally, I would like the rails as such so that wherever I sit, I don't have Rapid Man climbing on the rails in front of me. I don't mind if he does it in front of you. I just don't want it in front of me I also want the Rapids to develop something that plays into the Rapids history. Invesco was clearly built to celebrate the Broncos history, past, present and future. The Rapids should do exactly the same. I don't want a trophy case...yet...because, well, we have no hardware, and I can't think of anything more silly than having an empty trophy case. But a spot should be picked out for one, and the minute we win a trophy, it should go there. But the Rapids have hall of famers from the team, and the Rapids should celebrate their all time greats...and we do have a few from our history...Balboa, Bravo, Sawatsky, etc. We should celebrate them all
I think the best stadiums are those that reflect their local environment. I like the way that the new Fire place is trying to echo some local Chicago buildings. It would probably cost too much money to make the place look like Red Rocks but it is being built next to the largest urban wildlife area in the United States. There has to be something unique about it that makes people want to show it to their friends. Ideas?
Huge field, Chung's right, we should take advatage of the elevation and make the opponents cover lots of ground Love the idea of a full-time pub, but I don't have my hopes up Good tailgating area Permanent supporters section. Permanent signs detailing that it's a supporters section, built in spots for hanging signs on the rail there, maybe the only section of the stadium that's bleachers instead of seats (Nobody cares where they sit in the section, and bleachers can be stood on) I'd like to see them incorporate a river or water design into the stadium. At one point somebody mentioned some type of geyser or something that could go off when they score or after a win.
HEH,HEH, instead of one segregated area for loud fans, how about an area for soccer moms and kids instead ,so that the ENTIRE stadium can stand, yell, jump and cheer all they want without hassles. Just a joke(sort of) HEH,HEH.
The most important thing I want the stadium to have is a winning team. All else is gravy. (I do like gravy, however, so I'll second the calls for a quality pub. Good public transportation access, a huge field, fans close to action, and a great press box are also wants).
No dude ... you're right on. A "families" section is a necessity. That way ... if you're bringing your kids and you don't want to see drunkards/cursing and what not ... and you're not sitting there ... YOUR BAD!
I don't think this is a joke. I believe that there should be a "family section." I get so tired of unwrnagled children running and screaming. I know it happens, but it shouldn't be the norm. A section that is secluded to one side and it is understood that NO fowl language or roudyness is encouraged would be great. I would like a grassy noll area with water trees for families to camp, or people to picknic. A pub with visibility to the field that we can pre game happy hours and/or still see the game while up to get a beer (and smoke possibly). I personally want a brick structure. The metal is fine and loud, but brick seems to hold the noise in better. A permanent cannon, or better yet a fog horn (I just love fog horns). No CSC. This is my joke item: I would like a water/misting system that runs through the roof and when we score a goal it would go off and get the crowd a little wet. No flooding, but just a nice little down pour/mist like being at the edge of a watter fall. I would also like to be there for a couple of day games. I know this is off topic, but I wish we could get a few scheduled, I miss seeing the game during the day. *shrug* And He!! yeah on the field being as big as possible. We need to use our advantage any way we can - which means running the he!! out of other teams.
That would be great. Rapidman and the cheerleaders can hang out there too. The new stadium should not have enough room on the side of the field that the cheerleaders can hang out there.
Classic! Oh yeah ... an NO cheerleaders in the stadium. I know the Rapids pre-game did a retarded bit on them ... F THEM!!!
They are building the stadium out where the Foxes played for a couple of years. Only a few miles from Wembley stadium.
I remember seeing the Foxes beat Norwich City and tie Kaiserslautern in the Four Nations Cup at old mile high. Those games still have more of an imprint on my memory than any Rapids games do. Except their one MLS Cup Final appearance, maybe.
I would like a pub, but when my business sense kicks in why would they put a pub in a stadium that will probably only open its doors 18 games a year and 12 concerts a year. Sounds like a losing proposition, especially if only 10 people show up for viewing parties.
That's my concern as well, but give the economic redevelopment that's supposed to go along with the stadium, they might create a commercial district that can support a pub. Maybe get a licensing fee and get sombdoy to run the pub as a seperate entity, with the understanding that it be limited to ticket holders only during games and that it be available for viewing parites?
Cool that some folks dig that Idea for a soccer mom and kiddies section.Notice when I said "just kidding" I wrote "sort of",I'm sure the powers that be will eat up that Idea..hmmm..."lets cater to the well behaved folks that buy our lemonade and dippin dots" I'm sure the livin-end fochee ball fanatics will maybe have a "rowdy section"....in the tunnell or behind the point boards...... Na I'm sure it won't be that bad. I also agree with Bilbo,a pub would be cool but not cost effective. And as far as the cheerleaders are concerned well....maybe put them in the stands roaming around and leading the crowd in chants or whatever. A GIGANTIC FIELD!!! yeah I agree with that one. Better suds selection....well duh!! who would say no to that. And in regards to special sections, I think we need a strong supporters section at BOTH ends!! Golly Heck, why not at all four corners, and both sides center? (with drums, cannons and smoke/confetti machines of course) And an entire lot for tailgating with room for a little friendly kick-around. ( notice I didn't curse at all and i'm sitting down right now without a keg of suds, well behaved just like CSC have trained me to be)-Heh,Heh,Heh
here is what i want: 1- Seats right up to the field like some stadiums in EPL, field side seats that are right behind the ad boards. i think this is the most important thing on my list. 2- a permenant cannon or a water feature that shoots off when we score. 3- a Pub, but while i think it should show mostly soccer i would like it to show other sports as well, it would be easier to make money that way. 4- permenant supporters section 5- permenant family area with a nearby kiddy play area so the hyper ones can get away from the stands where they will bug people watching the game. 6- No CSC 7- No cheerleaders. 8- Box goals.
