Check out the new Soccernet layout on espn.com You have to go to ESPN's main page, then click on Soccer (not soccernet) Can't say I'm a fan of the new layout. Please write in and say you'd like more MLS coverage. When I select USA as my country, I'd like info about MLS teams, not EPL lite. Cool articles about the Our Way DVD and Friedel though
i concur, although i'm not sure if the articles and everything would focus on mls when the season is on
I realize not everything would be MLS, but news such as Donovan, McBride and Arena all signing new contracts would warrant more coverage. I noticed they had the Arena story linked on the front page of ESPN, but it took a day to get the picture and the same article linked up to Soccernet. Perhaps more timely MLS/USA news is what I'd like best
Yeah - I set it for USA but it looks like I'm in logging in in London. Hopefully when the MLS season starts it will look less like the Barclaycard home page and more like an American soccer page.
This might be a dumb question, but how the heck do you get onto the ESPN soccer message board now? I cannot find the link. I'm assuming it wasn't shut down. I did write the "Contact Me" with the same question very early this morning before work, but have not gotten a reply yet. Thanks
go to the espn home page, on the side will be a link to their message boards... that will take you to a directory of all their boards... the one you want is the main major league soccer boards (there is a soccernet one as well as countless other ones for other sports) -jim
thanks. appreciate the help. Not the greatest board, but one of the few I do visit, so it's nice to still have it.
Am I the only one having problem accessing Soccernet? When I clicked on "soccer" on the ESPN front page, it led me to a page that asked me to "Please select your location". When I picked my region and clicked on the "set region" button, all that it did was to refresh that same page. Where did I go wrong? Any help is much appreciated.
Not good, but I don't go to Soccernet for MLS coverage (and neither do you guys, be honest), but I am in the "USA/Canada" region so I sign in from there. The new layouts has about 1/3rd of the previous headlines and that, quite simply, blows.
Soccernet is mostly written by Englishmen, for English soccer. I think that ESPN is great just to "demand" that we get better coverage than the Mexican league, latin american leagues, minor european leagues (Belgium, Denmark, Scandinavia, Russia, Swiss, Austria, etc) don't get on Soccernet. It is now much easier to navigate to the US area of the website, and let's be honest - there isn't much news coming out right now. Just a lot of talk about trades, etc. Also, there were articles about Landon, McBride and the Bruce contracts. I for one would like to see more in-depth stats and player profiles in the format that Soccernet has for the EPL and the Champion's League, but to be honest they don't even have those available for any of the other major leagues (Scotland , Spain, Italy, Germany, France and Holland) that they cover. I think we will know MLS has arrived when they (or at least PlanetFootball) start doing OPTA stats of the teams/players. That would be cool. As far as the layout goes - strange colors. But it always takes awhile to get used to new looks (like the awful lemon color in the BigSoccer sidebar).
you are right, i don't go there for news but now, espn, the leader in sports news in this country is sending anyone it has to a site that pretty much has nothing to do with the game here in the states saying we aren't going to bother to do much for the u.s., here is the occassional blurb, here are the leagues you should care about not cool, they don't even link the espn soccer boards
It's just not as user-friendly as the old version. It was easier to navigate around from the home page and from results/reports to the standings/tables and whatnot. Newer is not always better.
No SoccerTimes I liked the old layout better. Also they no longer have the link/articels from SoccerTimes. Also on the US page if you click on the clubs link at the top you get the English clubs. Would be nice if they did the same thing for the different levels (MLS, A-League, PDL, WUSA, W-League) of US soccer.
