You know what really is starting to piss me off. Whether it's on Facebook or Twitter it's people who post teasers like this. Yeah, I'm an old fart getting older but seriously, Tim, are you 11? Get in your jammies, have some warm milk and go to bed. When you have something of substance, please let us know. You know, with full sentences, formed into paragraphs forming a coherent thought.
Good one More ranting deleted. Well except for this. (To Tim and others like him who do this) If you've got something to say, say it. Don't insult me by hinting around.
Yeah, it'd be nice if Tim realized that his fan base is smart enough to recognize one player ain't gonna be the silver bullet for this squad. I give him a little credit for trying to give Rapids fans something to look forward to in this otherwise dismal season, but the last thing we need is to be built up if the potential is there for another let down. It's better to do things quietly.
I tried to bring up the conversation with my wife about renewing season tickets today.... it was like a stirred pot.
Exactly. He comes from marketing. He knows that you have to get people talking about the team and putting something out there like this can (not guaranteed) get the team out there. Depending on how much news is happening on the particular day (tomorrow in this case) MLS bloggers and writers might end up throwing this into reports etc or if it is a really slow day maybe it is a separate story (not front page, but somwhere in the RSS feed), plus once the signing is made then that will be another story. Plus, it worked for me. I'm dreading the potential of "woops we hit a snag" coming, but instead it made me go, "Really!Iwonderwhoitwillbe.Anotherdefenderfinallyoranotherstriker?WillitbefromoutsideMLS?Willitjustbeoneofthepeopleplayinginthereservegames?Itprobablywon'tbeastarterbutmaybewewillgetlucky." I seriously think all of that went through my head in about half a second after seeing the tweet. It got me excited and now I am waiting to hear more. I'll probably repeatedly check the Rapids website tomorrow now. (page views = advertising $) It has me engaged. Well done Mr. Hinchey.
Chalk it up to a difference of opinion, but I'd rather see the pot get stirred by positive results, than by trotting out a shiny new toy. The two aren't mutually exclusive, granted, and if we can get positive results with the shiny new toy, great! But the last thing I personally want, with how this year has gone, is to have my emotions manipulated with marketing guru gimmicks. The wounds (read: not just the results, but the other undelivered-upon promises from the RFO and Hinchey in particular) are too fresh.
Too little, (WAY) to late... comes to my mind. We need help almost across board and if he just got here (meaning no trial), how long until he is fit, 1 month, 6 weeks. How much help will that be. Very un-impressed with this last gasp, lets give some hope for our Re-newal period opening (Yep, I will re-new). Also, Timmy if your lurking. Super-subs are worthless when you don't win games. Get these guys on the field from start (Hill and Cascio).
This. How many times have the Rapids over-promised and under-delivered? Until I have some faith that they can actually back up their marketing promises with actual results (both game results and actually meeting the hype results) stuff like this just pisses me off. Count me in DavidJames camp.
Marketing? He's marketing to those that follow him on Twitter? This is marketing akin to a Kardashian tweeting about the awesome date she's about to go on
And of course, based on the track record of the Rapids FO including the current FO, 'very soon' could be anything from today to a month from now at the roster freeze deadline...
This excites me as much as a tweet about a jersey sponsor. I will believe it when I see it and even then I may be skeptical.
It is pretty late for signings but could be a trade. I've seen fc Dallas people saying their FO is rumored to make a new signing announcement soon as well. Maybe Omar. It would coincide with the brief negative publicity campaign to persuade public opinion.. Who knows? I've learned not to get my hopes up.
Hinchey dropped a couple of clues at STH event this week. Player is a position of need, Premier League experience, not an old fart. He also seemed certain the deal was as good as done (I know, easier said than done). In any event, it got me excited. I love the tweet. I enjoy being given the time to speculate before the actual news comes out.
Was it one of the Happy Hour events? In Fort Collins we just got ticket reps. I was really hoping Hinchey or Bravo would come.
Wow this is Surprising. Not sure how we can fit that under cap without making moves. Position of need doesn't really narrow it down too much. Must be currently out of contract.
Wow, didn't think that posted prior to getting distracted by work. What I meant to say is I have no reason to know anything about the Kardashian. Yet, here we are the name, no matter how distasteful, is now easily recognizable on a soccer board. People may hate these little gimmicks, but they do work. I've seen accusations regarding these boards not having a firm grip, and here we are complaining about a tweet.
I know about them because of the laughing stock they've become with comedians and news. I stand by my comparison. I think we have a different definition and expectation of the phrase "they do work".
