The Saudi FA has appointed Argentinian Gabriel Calderon as the new coach of Saudi Arabia. He will take over the team after the SriLanka game. Who is he? Well that's a good question. He has a decent CV as a player, he was an International striker, played in both WC86 an 90. But he's a total unknown as a coach. As far as I know, all he's done since retiring is a techincal expert job with FIFA. You know the kind. Somebody to give seminars to third world coaches. Sounds like the perfect coach for our FA
I'm confused.... I thought I read very recently that Al Johar was back as Saudi coach (after sacking van der Lem).... what gives?
Ive read it in Al-Watan a few days ago. He played with Argentina in 1986 and 1990 WC. Coached some european teams and argentinian teams. I posted a topic about him in the Argentinian forums asking about him and no replies yet. I have one thing to say : لله يستر بس I think our FA is gonna ruin everything. He's gonna begin after Eid, and their will be a three week training camp for Gulf Cup.
I know the name, but didn't know he coached. Like most other players-turned-coaches, he'll either turn out to be a complete disaster or a complete success.
Knowing the Saudi FA policy of keeping a coach, he will probably be sacked soon. He is a total newbie and not familiar with Asian football.
