I thought CJ dos Santos did pretty well considering the hand he was dealt. He had some big saves and some important sweeping actions. The goals that were scored he didn’t have much he could do about.
Here’s how @sandiegofc’s first-ever starting XI could look this weekend. Thoughts? 🤔 pic.twitter.com/EjU28CnUYF— Major League Soccer (@MLS) February 18, 2025
Nothing USYNT related but SDFC certainly looked competent enough beating the defending champs 2-0 in their first ever game ANDERS DREYER SEALS IT! 💥What a moment for @sandiegofc! pic.twitter.com/41yFDEocTT— Major League Soccer (@MLS) February 24, 2025
Calling them the defending champs is a bit of a Ship of Theseus situation, that is not at all the same team that lifted the cup last year.
So I was looking to see if Saidi made the bench for San Diego last night, he did not. Having looked over their roster, he's a good 4 years younger than every other player. Since they do not have a Next Pro team, are there plans to loan him out?
Saidi was on the bench but didn’t play Our FIRST Starting XI in Major League Soccer. Tell a friend. pic.twitter.com/1RNZtSA56K— San Diego FC (@sandiegofc) February 23, 2025
And the roster setup is pretty good for him if he can perform. The other guys are, broadly speaking, journeymen and a prospect.
Right to Dream MLS goal... for San Jose Waking up to @Ousseni_bouda scoring for @SJEarthquakes in @MLS season opener? Not a bad way to start the day. 😏☀️67’ ➡️ Subbed on74’ ➡️ Finds the net 🎯Off the bench & straight onto the scoresheet. What a way to kick off the season! 🚀 pic.twitter.com/U1jOECFdyT— Right to Dream (@right2dream) February 23, 2025
Through our first two matches... ● 88.8% passes completed● Leads MLS in average ball possession and progression● First expansion club to not concede a goal in its first two matches since the 2009 Seattle Sounders. pic.twitter.com/Nz6i6qMTSH— San Diego FC (@sandiegofc) March 6, 2025
Bruce Arena smh I love what San Diego is doing https://t.co/EzLznywxMs— Marcus Chairez | US/SC (@USSoccerColl) April 17, 2025
It's all irrelevant, because if you move to MLS you are practically stuck there, because they sign young talents to keep them as long as possible in MLS, while Danish clubs sign young foreign youth internationals, also from bigger countries, like Germany, with the promise that they are going to be sold within a few years to one of the top 5 leagues of Europe, MLS do not make such promises. The only reason why young foreign internationals move to the Danish league or Danish youth clubs, is because they know it's good for a quick future career in the top leagues of Europe. The players knows this, just as the top-5 league clubs of Europe also know this, which is also why not only the Danish league but also Danish youth leagues are more than heavily scouted. The finished "product", who almost made it, but just not quite, are usually also too good for MLS, just look at Anders Dreyer.
Almiron, Duran, Brenner, Almada, Cucho, Gomez, Bombito........................................... You've got no clue
Petrovic, Gomez, Castellanos, Biuk, Carranza. Virtually all South American with a couple of Eastern Europeans but there is attention from bigger European clubs and there are sales. This is no dead end league.
Mexico is holding a youth national team tryout in San Diego for US-based players. https://t.co/Vsf9Ngehzg— USMNTProspects (@ProspectsUsmnt) May 14, 2025
Credit to San Diego for already starting two very young American fullbacks Oscar Verhoeven makes his first start for San Diego FC since being acquired early in the season, starting opposite fellow ‘06 fullback Luca Bombino. https://t.co/aVy5MmuhSG— American Ultras Talk (@usmntaut) May 18, 2025
Things are happening in SD San Diego FC are MLS's most dangerous possession team outside of Columbus.Their off-ball rotations are seamless and every central player can *pass*.It's No. 6 Jeppe Tverskov who rotates into the No. 10 spot and keys this whole goal -- this isn't normal in this league, people. pic.twitter.com/3DmRGUh1Oc— Joseph Lowery (@joeclowery) May 24, 2025
