Learning a lot from this article LOL a list of local soccer stars who drifted elsewhere–U.S. national team member Haji Wright, Mexican side Las Palmas’ Julián Araujo, and FC Dallas’ Paul Arriola, to name a few. https://sandiegomagazine.com/everything-sd/san-diego-futbol-club-mls-2025-season/ Sources: San Diego FC are NOT in any discussions — let alone advanced talks — to sign Mexico GK Memo Ochoa.Never say never, but nothing active. Please stop believing every dude & every rumor on twitter. Particularly this one who gets things wrong on MLS all. of. the. time. pic.twitter.com/6GDF1ZLPtD— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) May 1, 2024
"a whole new level" let's hope so Don’t think MLS is ready for what @sandiegofc is cooking. The rest of clubs (owners) better step up, this is a whole new level. These are the type of projects that American soccer desperately needs, specially at the youth level.Feature coming.(Still dislike the badge though) pic.twitter.com/hWgwshTEYP— Michele Giannone (@MicheleG3) May 9, 2024
Ambitious attempt from "the Ajax of MLS"... HITC understands that new MLS franchise San Diego FC are ready to launch an audacious attempt to land Manchester City superstar Kevin De Bruyne.https://t.co/u4KNqTdV3g— Graeme Bailey (@GraemeBailey) May 13, 2024
San Diego potentially dodging a bullet... this dude looks like he's out of ideas Hirving "Chucky" Lozano recently told @ESPNnl that his current priority is to stay in Europe, but when asked if he had to pick between playing in Liga MX or MLS?"Well, I'd like to go to Liga MX"https://t.co/aejKHD5IIX— Cesar Hernandez (@cesarhfutbol) May 13, 2024 Terrible idea if it's as a DP... San Diego FC, Sergio Ramos in advanced talks
What's interesting is everyone will gt the idea SD is like Miami but once they get rolling they will have a bunch of very young players and we'll see how many older superstars they have once their academy is spitting out prospects.
hmmm... Interesting to see a joint press conference between San Diego FC and Xolos set for Thursday with Xolos' owner & SDFC's CEO speaking.Plan to write about how SD has come into the SoCal/Baja market & what it means for Club Tijuana, but would benefit everyone if both 'play nice' pic.twitter.com/c2HKH7Fynr— Jon Arnold (@ArnoldcommaJon) May 14, 2024
What is "not playing nice?" SDFC sure as heck isn't going to not recruit from Mexico, though maybe they will set up a semi-formal compensation thing. It sure has heck isn't going to not market across the border, though I expect they will focus on trying to make SDFC the MLS team for Xolos fans. I expect the press conference is about an annual match or something.
Just an annual friendly, nothing related to player development... San Diego FC 🤝 Club Tijuana⁰Five-year partnership will feature an annual friendly match as part of a football cultural celebration for the region. ⁰Read more ↓— San Diego FC (@sandiegofc) May 17, 2024
Meanwhile the Lozano deal is basically done despite his comments Sources: The deal for San Diego FC to sign Chucky Lozano for around $12m is all agreed and nearly done. Expected to be signed & complete in coming days. I'd expect Lozano to remain at PSV until Jan.Lozano won league title this year after winning Serie A w/ Napoli last year. https://t.co/JQkiCUEskI pic.twitter.com/WULT5Qtt53— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) May 19, 2024
Big setback for San Diego... Huge turnaround here: The deal for San Diego to name Carlos Aviña the club's first sporting director is OFF, as @FabrizioRomano called.Aviña to remain with AS Monaco. Now, he's officially CSO.He was previously with AS Monaco and US Soccer before Right to Dream. pic.twitter.com/MfeFKdLiE7— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) June 13, 2024 I had the pleasure of chatting with Tyler a few months back. He was kind enough to share some of his time and vision for the future. SDFC are in really good hands. https://t.co/FfhmNZUzdL— Marcus Chairez (@chai_asc) June 13, 2024
Reporting that Bob Bradley will be their first coach Gustavo reporting Bob Bradley will be the 1st head coach of @sandiegofc. Keep in mind Tom Penn hired him @ LAFC to be first head coach there and they got off to an amazing start first couple of seasons. https://t.co/83HBfQ1AbC— Stu Holden (@stuholden) June 22, 2024
