New Ryan Adams Album "************ed Up"

    Steve Haag reports:

File under: Least Earthshattering News Ever. Those of you who had March 25th in the Ryan Adams Album Release Date Office Pool are out of luck. The prolific alt-country star had eyed that date for the release of his follow-up to 2002's five-albums-mashed-into-one offering, Demolition. But, the tentatively titled Life Is Hell, due to be wrought forth unto the world on Lost Highway Records, isn't gonna make that date after all.

In an interview with NME, the infinitely quotable Adams revealed that he needs at least another two weeks to put the finishing touches on: "I've got to like [the album] first. I don't even know what the ************ I'm doing. It's definitely more ************ed up than any other record I've ever made. I don't know what the ************ it is." We can now add the soon-to-have-his-mouth-washed-out Adams to the ever-growing list (see also: Robbie Fulks, Jack White, et al) of musicians who don't know what the ************ Ryan Adams is doing.

For those of you too busy watching Help! I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! to keep up with Adams' battles, sit back and let the 'Fork cover the salient points in the feud with Jack White. White took umbrage with a change Adams made to the lyrics of the Stripes' "Dead Leaves And The Dirty Ground" during a cover of the song; Adams deemed it necessary to call White a "************ing ponce" (guh?), insult White's fashion sense (okay, he might be onto something there), and claim that he was originally offered a small role in the upcoming film Cold Mountain that ended up going to White. As to why he turned it down, Adams had this to say to NME: "Because I didn't see acting anywhere on my job application to be a rock ************ing star, you know. It's true. That's ************ing fact." Again with the ************ing! Damn! Dude's even making the Fork blush with that noise! White has yet to respond to Adams' barbs, probably because he's busy making sure the White Stripes album, Elephant, doesn't have any, um, unaccredited lyrics on it.

This guy takes himself way more seriously than any music lover should. He's not that good.

The more I read his little self-important outbursts, the more I want to go to one of his shows just to stand up front and request "Summer of '69" (which apparently drove him psycho at a show last year). ;)
