Word coming down the pike suggests that while MLS is willing to exercise the option year on Chacon's contract, they'd only do so if the player were willing to accept a 40% cut in salary. That being said, apparently the ex-Rev is exploring options in both South Korea and South America.

Carlos Llamosa was interviwed on Radio Unica last night, the player suggesting there is still a chance he'll sign with Nacional or another Colombian club.

Finally, it's thought that both Atletico Nacional and Bucurumanga of Colombia are looking into the possibility of acquiring Diego Serna.

    Just FYI,

Thanks for the updates and thanks for the thread that now seems to have Revs management taking questions for answer over the weekend.

    Not a problem.

It'll be nice to see how the club responds: two-way communication is both essential and appreciated.

As for the other tidbits, it's interesting to see how things may be shaping up behind the scenes. It's this variety of "hot stove league talk" that keeps the fans warm during this winter chill.

    File Under Tidbits:

Remember when GK Adin Brown was held out of Nats camp? Seems as though the scraggly looking youngman has an extremely high pain threshold.
Brown said he broke his foot back in May and that's why he was held out in camp. Accordingly, the Nats didn't want to exacerbate his condition by playing him.

    Stick to soccer Joe-Max

How the heck did Joe-Max get involved in selling drugs?? And how does he expect to get business off and running when he doesn't even offer Viagra????!!! :)

JMM got into it almost by accident. A few years back his mom had breast cancer. Due to the high cost of meds, he began searching the Internet to find low-cost providers of pharmaceuticals. Through his research he discovered Canada is the motherland of low cost drugs.
You know the rest of the deal...

I guess that makes the Reis trade with LA even better--a back uo--starting quality Keeper for a 2nd round pick and off loaded Cap :)

I don't want to start a thread to this effect but what do you think of last years big trade now?????
We still have Hernandez and Kamler as starters and the Mutts have released all three players they got from us.

Sunil and Steve are slick traders.

I'm guessing Sigi wouldn't have pulled the trigger on the Chacon thing if he didn't think he could get the guy to sign.

Sunil and Steve are slick traders.........or Nick S. in Jersey is an idiot?

Well, back when the deal wasn't looking too good for us, Todd Smith did say he would do the deal "six days a week and twice on Sunday" when people like me (hey, at least I admit it) were criticizing the deal. I guess time proved that he knew what he was doing.

And compare that to Nick S, who openly gloated to the press on how he had swindled the Revs...

The trade worked out ok in the end, but was it skill or luck? I find it hard to believe that we made that deal expecting to ride into the playoffs with DH as our attacking mid. It was the third spot they tried him at...

All of the players we gave up are gone from the Metros. Looks like it worked out more than ok to me. Credit to Todd S for not gloating.

He probably has every right to, considering how it all turned out.

Count me among those who thought it was a bad deal. I was wrong.

Not technically true. Nick is a twit, no doubt, but Diallo was sold, not released. That sale resulted in an allocation, which is apparently soon to be used on a 22 yo Spaniard with an impressive resume. I'll wait until I see the kid play before I pass judgement. As of right now though, yeah, no kiddin, you all got the best of that trade.

Oh, also, Andy Williams may be back at a cheaper salary too, so he could well be in a Metro jersey at the start of the season.

    Call me pigheaded.

Jacen is right. Things did turn out much better than I had hoped, and in that respect I was certainly wrong. However, if Diallo morphs into a dazzling young Spanish midfielder, and Serna vanishes into the Colombian mist without compensation, it would be a stretch to say that we came out better. I don't know what the deal is with AW, but until someone proves me wrong, I still count him as one of MLS' better midfielders - If Metro gets him back on the cheap, that's another point for them.

Er, guys...can you say slam dunk?

The two teams made the trade for the benefit that they would derive last year. How did things turn out?

Yeah the Spanish kid might turn out to be the next Rivaldo.
    Or not.

But if you start reasoning that because you got a decent player from the allocation acquired for getting rid of a loser (and, I'm sorry, Mamadou has turned out to be just that - there's nothing worse than a talented guy who can't get his head in order), well maybe it was a good move for the Metros to have acquired Branco. Who knows what the extended genealogy of that allocation will lead to led to?

Hernandez alone made it a good trade. Williams is probably an equally good player, but (as Smith seemed to realize and the abominable Suckawitz missed) - but not an equally good MLS player. Kamler was gravy.

Why look any further than you have to? For once the Revs clearly got the best of a deal.

LA fans might be better off if he was resigning.

I think a lot of teams learned a lot about how to defense Mr. Chacon last year. Most noticed that the quality of his finishing and passing deteriorated significantly when he was sitting on his ass. Cienfuegos (who was/is one tough little b*stard) he's not.

    Just my opinion.
