Haha oops, that was unintentional. Think of it as a Kaka reference.

I had a very similar experience to you - I went to my first Revs game in person during the '06 playoffs and was hooked after a great experience. I went by myself. I realized that if I wanted to make friends I'd have to actually introduce myself to people. Once I did there were very few people who weren't very open and friendly. Now a few of the "crusty old entrenched Riders" are some of my best friends.

I don't get what you're saying at all. If you're not willing to introduce yourself to people, you're not going to make any friends in any group. As for offering 'food and spirits,' hell that's one thing that the Riders seem to do more than anything. I've even seen them give food and beer to Mexicans and Chicago fans

    Crusty ... really? Ouch! :p

In regards to your second half of the comment ... almost every other team that has ever sent fans to a game at Gillette has has those fans join us. And almost without exception they've been treated very well by the Riders as a group.

It's not and it's not your fault or Monty or those who may post on these boards. I know Monty well, and even though we've had our battles, we both believe in befriending fellow fans. However there is a sense of entitlement with some Riders that may not be noticed by long term members because they don't see it. I don't think it's something the group can change, it's just the way people are. Some get very territorial of their cliques.

Let me guess, the popular kids don't like you?

If you don't like the Riders, Rev Army, or whatever, perhaps you shouldn't be a member and try to hang out with them? Sounds like a waste of time to me, but I guess some people enjoy being social victims.

It's clearly not just you if Kyle and Josh felt the need to start a third group with the hook being that they are more open and more friendly.

Speaking from my own perspective, when I first started I did not feel comfortable going into the tailgate area and for the first year that I had season tickets ('07) I spent 3/4 of the season parking right outside the riders lot and hoping that someone would come out, say hi and invite me in. It never happened.

What did happen is after one of the games the Kerns (who have tickets right next to me) invited me over to their tailgate and introduced me to seamus and the other newcastle fans (I was wearing my newcastle kit at the time cause i didn't own a revs one yet). After that first introduction, I came back the next game and started talking to people that I met last time and introducing myself to others. To this day, i don't think that Monty and I were ever formally introduced, but somehow, despite his love for all that is mexican, he and i have become great friends. I think this goes for many of the friends that i have in the riders lot.

With that being said, based on your prior post, you got your formal intro during your first game and during smoke breaks. After that you need to take some initiative and go talk to random people (i recommend the ones that have food as they will most likely give you some which also seems to be a demand of yours). I'll even invite you over to my tailgate, i am the one in the kilt, pretty easy to find. come over and say hi, we'll be more than happy to have you.

I don't understand why you keep using the word "cliques." When i come to the games with my friends we park next to each other and we hang out before and after the game. I don't understand what you want to change? Should we eliminate personal tailgates and do what DC does with just a main grill and everyone paying to get in to eat and drink? Don't you think that everyone will stay in those same cliques just at a different spot in the lot? I like to grill, i like to make my own things and I don't believe that my friends and I sitting around my grill, drinking, laughing and having a good time constitutes a sense of entitlement.

Also steve, I know who you are and you know who I am. You have been a rider much longer than I have, yet you have never even said hello to me. I have walked by your tailgate literally dozens of times and never have you offered me a beer or food. So why don't you take a good look at yourself before you start telling others that they are forming cliques and are not open or friendly.

I'm going to try to say this without coming off as an old member who isn't happy with the new people. When I joined, back in 03, it was very easy to mix and mingle. Over the years the group has grown, substantially, and with that people have broken into cliques. I use the word cliques because that's what it is. And I hate to say that some cliques have attributes that are similar to the snobby ones in high school. I was surprised to hear what some people have to say about other people behind their backs.

You are very much entitled to sit around drinking beers and eating food with your friends at a tailgate. That's not the issue I have. And I'm not calling you the culprit of the allegations.

As for me not every introducing myself, I wouldn't take that as an insult. I would have but after the remarks you've made to me on this board as well as the remarks I've heard you say to people about me I don't really feel the need to try to befriend you.

Not to beat a dead horse, but why the hell not!?

Steve, you don't come across as the friendliest, most open person either, and the way you talk to people on here doesn't do you any favors. If you are going to continue to call out people for being cliquish and such (and as always, I am sure you mean the Riders, cuz that's a dead horse you love to beat) then perhaps you need to look a little closer in the mirror.

This is so old. There are topics that are guaranteed to have JMMUSA8's posts in it: anything anti-Bruins and anything anti-Riders. Anyone on here knows how often you post on those subjects and others as well, and the tone you take. You don't really have much to complain about in terms of not knowing people at tailgates; most people know who you are. And seriously, how unfriendly could people be if they elected you to a board position and welcomed your involvement on events, both social and philanthropic? Yeah, this group of people sounds like real asswipes. Am I wrong, or did this anti-Riders vitriol begin after you were voted out of your position? Hmmm... sounds like you need someone on the grassy knoll to back up your continuous argument...

Well Sarah I will admit I am not the most open person. That's just my personality.

By the way, I didn't say being cliquish was bad. It's the nature of the beast of a large organized group. During tailgates I will bounce between different groups of people.

Perhaps Sarah when you saw that I just posted you had to post to tell me to shut up. I know you've been vocal about your displeasure of me "beating a dead horse" about the Riders. Well maybe because it's just that people don't believe there's a problem. We are the same group of fans who blame the FO for not doing anything because they don't think there's anything wrong. Quite hypocritical if you ask me.

And I didn't call anyone asswipes or any other insult. It's a concern I have for the group that it's run as a small group of friends when it should be run as a large group of people, because that's what the Riders have turn into, a large group of organized fans.

Ah yes, and how can we forget the notion that I'm only bitter because I was voted out. Believe what you want but these concerns I've had about the Riders stems back to before I was elected. I don't really understand why no one has done anything to fix it.

I'm just gonna go ahead and retract my post in order to prevent any major issues stemming from it.

So about the Rebellion Kegs and Riot Punch...

Neither did mine. I can definitely see where the accusations of cliquiness in the Riders is coming from. ;)

I don't really want to jump in on the food fight here, but didn't you just say a few posts above that things were much easier when you joined, and now you're saying it's been this way since before you were a Rider?

    About the Rebellion:
As has been stated by others in this thread, I strongly suggest the Rebellion tries to improve the Fort, not separate from it. Please use section 143 or 142 so you can stay with the rest of the fans. Regardless of how many fans "we" (I plan on joining this year along with the Riders" bring every game, separating into a third section will make things even worse.
I feel the Rebellion should stay with the group and try and steer it in the right direction. Try and keep only the good songs going. At least half of the songs done in the fort are so bad that it is actually embarrassing to join along in it, which causes people to start other songs and is the reason for all of the problems in the fort.

The communication problem has been a problem I've noticed since I joined the Riders. I asked the board to fix it, I gave suggestions, I volunteered my time and hard work (as well as others) to try to fix this issue and honestly I don't think it is good as it could be.

FYP but I think you're basically right.....but who decides what is "good" and what is not??? And if people continue with the "bad" songs in Riders/Rebellion/Army/Barra will people just start another SG??

    <on topic>

What is the latest for the Rebellion?

When can we expect to see a website and when will they start taking official memberships?

I also hope the final branding is rolled out soon so we can start thinking about scarf contests ect.

I too worry about the Rebellion moving sections, and it has been something I've discussed with others recently and we all generally see it as a bad idea, however if they Revs do end up tarping the top sections of the Fort this year we won't really know what the effect will be until the first game because we will essentially have 2 major variables in the fort over the status quo. I think over all we'll need to wait and see what happens but keep the lines of communication open (and maybe open them with the Barra) between all the groups and if its not working out make sure we try to mkae an effort to make it work, but again a lot will depend on what happens with tarps and that first game.

The opportunity exists for everyone to work together. Hell, there was initial friction between Rev Army and the Riders back in the late-1990s, a lot of a result of assumptions, poor communication, and general skepticism of one another. But here's the thing, each group brought something to the table that ultimately contributed to a stronger Fort, in the case of Rev Army, most of the current Fort 'songbook.' The Riders, to their credit, tried to establish a line of communication with the club so that supporters' interests and concerns were put in forth of officials in the front office, especially it getting the Revolution to recognize The Fort as the official supporters section.

That's not to suggest there's a great deal of overlap between the groups, but I think there's respect in the right places and circumstances; politics and soccer can make for strange bedfellows. I might not know the likes of Beau, Tommy, Jo, Michelle (used to go to games in the late-90s)and other Rev Army people well, but they're damn good people, and without them, The Fort wouldn't be what it is.

That's why I'm hopeful for The Rebellion. I hope they bring something to the table both the Riders and Rev Army can jump on board with as well as non-affiliated supporters. It may be 5 people or 50 people (maybe more), but if they can generate something positive that will add something good to the motley crew that's The Fort, then welcome.

It's easy to achieve distinctiveness and demonstrate differences, but with respect to The Fort, the only way to see the section realize it's full potential is for people to step up, bust their asses, sacrifice, and take responsibility for who they want to be and what they desire to accomplish.
