From the Rapids website: The phrase “Rolling into Commerce City in 2007” has taken another dramatic step toward reality, as the Commerce City Ballot Initiative 2A (which approved the creation of $64 million dollars in sales tax revenue and possessory interest tax revenue bonds to fund mainly the off-site improvements surrounding the Prairie Gateway site) was passed by an overwhelming margin in Tuesday night’s election. http://www.coloradorapids.com/News/newsdetails.asp?ID=741
Great! I love it! I'm a little surprised to see New York is expected to move into their stadium in 2006. I thought they were still stuck in the 60-90 day loop.
I was hoping it did not pass and maybe they would have had to build the stadium some other place! But seriously! I am excited we are FINALY going to have a stadium of our own!
Do you think anyone will care if I take my shovel out there and start digging a hole just to give them a head start. Too bad this thing won't be done in 2006.
Great news. Thanks Commerce City! Hey, maybe by 2007, KSE will realize that Hankinson isn't producing and we'll have a new coach to go with the stadium
Thats exactly what I said last night. Maybe we can get those Extreme Makeover: Home Edition guys out there. Then it would be ready in about 7 days.
Man ... imagine ... taking the train to the stadium ... getting all blitzed and cheering your balls off with 20K other die hard fans where the sound is nicely captured by our roof ... and the field that has no lines ... leaving the stadium and heading to the pubs that surround the field and partying with our fellow mates. Then stumbling back to train for a nice happy ride home in celebration of watching a Rapids victory where they had just scored 5 goals!
This is really gonna to be great! It was good season. We played great at times and poorly at times. There will be a lot of changes next year and with a couple of new forwards and a change or two at midfield we will have a better team. TH should not be fired. While everyone can disagree with style of play at times and some questionable personnel decisions, he did a good job at working with the talent he had! Also, who would you replace him with for the same money? He was really two games away from the MLS cup final (with a draw and a win, not bad). With two new teams and a possible change to the play off structure to three teams per conference, this should turn up the competitive heat next season. We should give him another year then make a decision based on his performance next season. The stadium will be great for all the supporters and for Commerce City. I also wish we could start construction in 05 and play in 06. Cheers to 04 and the new stadium! This club has a great future!
This has got to be the best piece of sarcasm I've ever read.... right? The Rapids advaced further last year so essentially we are worse this year. With the lack of offense I'd say that we were no doubt worse this year. The parity(and Cannon) just made it seem like we weren't that bad. Hankinson needs to go, I think they should send Counce with him and we need to start fresh.
Hanki is this YOU??? How many chances do you really think you should get? Yep.....as soon as you pack your $hit and get out of dodge...uh...I mean CO. Happy Trails Hanki!
I think it would be great if somehow we could have a supporter's pub, a la Charleston, right there. (The Broken Oars, Shipwreck, The Rocks, The Falls (class 6)) It would ensure we had a place to view away games (provided of course they are on TV), and we'd have a place to avoid the common riff-raff before and after. Just a thought...
He's had 3 full seasons to get it right - enough "trying to get the right players". We could start with a goal frame (wood is cheapest), or maybe someone who has won some hardware like Ercoli from Rochester - I hear he's out of favor with management. (less cheap but affordable).
I can relate to everyones frustration, but you've gotta read this column by John Nicholson. If you have not read his column before, give him a try he's hilarious!! http://www.football365.com/opinion/john_nicholson/story_124417.shtml And no I'm not Hanki
This is designed into the Fire's new stadium. Sounds pretty cool, but I thought the idea was to mix with the riff-raff, not avoid them.
that's a beautiful looking stadium...hopefully after everything is finalized it can still have that look and roof. I think Dallas, Chicago, and NY would be jealous of that design after seeing their stadium renderings.
