Does any one have a pic of the new Puma Ball they are going to use this season?

Why exactly did we re-sign Etcheverry? He appears to have lost it completely.

And what's with the glasses? I thought he had the LASIK surgery...

And, to answer the original question, according to Puma's website, they will start a contest early this year to choose the design of the new ball.

Not again! Does your clock have to be repainted now?

    ### MODERATOR'S NOTE ###

This discussion is off-topic for the DC United board. I'll move it to the MLS general forum.

And to the MLS mods - I realize that there are already ongoing discussions about the new Puma ball. Please feel free to merge this thread into one already ongoing.

    PM with questions.

That appears to be Weird Al Etcheverry, his brother.

The balls in the picture are the same ones I saw at Burn camp. They don't yet appear to have any MLS markings though so they may just be preliminary practice balls.

    Ugh...

Let me be the first to say I don't like it.

You won't be the last either.

Its not as easy on the eyes a J-Lo in a bikini - but this is what Puma is doing to most of their soccer balls. Why I have no idea - but that's what they're doing. Maybe its some sort of a cat scratch mark thing.

Any who... I'm not gonna get worked up about it mostly because the ball won't make one bit of damn difference in any way that matters.

I hated the Adidas WC Fevernova ball when I first saw it. It was fugly. But it was the WC - I got used to it - now I like it because when I see it I think WC and that has meaning to me. I figure the same thing will happen with this MLS ball. And when the ball is sailing thru the air or rolling on the ground - it looks white.

And when your team knocks that ball into the back of the net - well, what's not to like about that?

I like the new Puma balls. They're head and shoulders above the mitre and kappa designs of the past seasons. I'm really not sure what people find so objectionable about the new designs. They're simple, sharp, and they feature the MLS colors.

hmmm... quite possible the best post i've read that wasn't all... n/m
i agree... although i still "kinda" like it...it just seems like its missing something... i'm sure the actual ball won't be exactly like this... although big deal...

Got an email directing me here today.

Part of the marketing of the new ball, and alltogether annoying.

The answer to the clue is Neville Southall

That's the one the teams have been training with, but I think there's another design that works in the green and blue of the MLS logo.

Looks 1000 times better than that retarded Kappa ball. Anyone liking Kappa ball must be 100 or 10 years old.

i actually liked the Kappa ball, it sure as hell beat the crappy Mitre ball. The ball was a classic ball with a modern twist.

I like it. No real complaints. There have been better. And, worse.

I played with the official Kappa ball a couple of times in my men's league and it was great. Felt nice coming off the foot. The design was a little old school, but oh well.

I'm sure the new Puma ball will be great, too.

Soccer will never be popular in this country until we can get a design for a ball that everybody agrees on.
