I was looking at American politics on the internet the other day and I saw an article on a new party in the United States called The Centrist Party. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centrist_Party_(United_States) http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4182/is_20060718/ai_n16541155 This is their official website, but the party seems almost non-existant with no activity.I also read an article the other day about this party being a hoax. Official Website: http://www.uscentrist.org/index.cfm?view=42.2&lan=en Does anyone know any more information about this such as how serious this is, and if they are really registered to the FEC?
Factions don't matter; they are Constitutional, but not constituted. That is, they are legal, but specifically left out of the Constitution for a variety of reasons, many of which have to do with calcification and institutionalization of power. No doubt, these two parties - these two wings of same party, the Financial Unicrats - have institutionalized themselves very, very well. The FUs have located a seeming NEED for them in every facet of our democratic processes. and they need to do that because the moment we realize that factions are irrelevant to our relationship to the Social COntract, they whither away. Thus, what's needed are not more factions, or new factions. The hope doesn't lie there. The hope lies in authentic, actionable information that makes factionalism obsolete, and better, more transparent and transformative ideas that locate power in the people, subversively forcing representatives and the representative process, to be fluid, responsive and ultimately renewing.
It looks as though this subforum isn't going anywhere. So let's use it. This sort of thread mostly belongs here. Welcome home.
I emailed the informational email address of this party: Response: What do you guys think?I found this a little strange: "I'm in Switzerland at the moment and heading to Oslo, Norway for a meeting with a climatologist next week."
I received another email from the party leader. They are working on their web site, aswell as the regional and local party system. He also said that you can sign up for updates from their website http://www.uscentrist.org .He also advises people to discuss the party with friends and other people you know, and to get en email list of interested individuals going.
This is a great idea! Republicans can join this party and Democrats can join this party and they won't have anything to argue about because the name has been changed!
shouldn’t they be called independent ? People who are in the middle usually choose to be independent , I don’t like this group because they are not original.
The American system is locked into the Democrats and Republicans for two reasons: *The "first past the post" electoral system, in which voters pick one person, and whoever has the most votes wins, even if less than 50% of the total. In this system, a vote for a third party is considered "throwing your vote away," or, even worse, helping the major candidate you really dislike win (the Ralph Nader phenomenon). *The weakness of party bureaucracies, which allow renegade candidates (like Ron Paul) to run under the banner of one of the established parties or to vote against the party's issue positions in Congress. This second factor makes people less likely to disregard the first factor, as they sometimes do in the UK and Canada. To get rid of the two-party oligarchy, we ought to have instant-runoff voting. This would allow someone to vote for Ralph Nader with the first preference and then Al Gore or someone as the second-best choice. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IRV)
