I do believe she has played with the Freedom before in camp.

I have to go find that thread....

    EDIT

    And here it is....

She played for the Freedom in the Beat game down in Houston after the season during one of their training camps. She got three assists.

The Freedom has her playing attacking center mid. She holds the ball and distributes very well.

    Possible replacement for Anne, maybe?

Well first off I think Anne has always teetered on the edge of being on the team in 2003. I would not be suprised if she is either traded or waived before the start of training camp on March 1st.

Is Gobs (I can't spell her full name just quite yet) a tad bit on the small side? According to her bio...

    http://www.matildas.org.au/kelly_golebiowski.htm

...she's barely over 5 feet tall. Shouldn't an attacking midfielder have some height and heft to her?

She is small, but I would compare her to a Laurie Schwoy (Pre-injury) or Mary Frances-Monroe. Neither of those players are very big, but they hold the ball well and have good passing ability. She was not particularly fast as I remember, so I think midfield would be a more natural position for her at the pro level.

    Yes.

"The Washington Freedom players and staff join in sending you holiday greetings and best wishes for a happy and healthy new year." Signed (well, with printed signatures) by most of the team, including Kelly Gollymynameislong.

How can you say such a thing? No one could ever replace Mia! Not in a million, million, million years! Mia is the greatest player in the history of the universe! When she quits playing, they might as well cancel soccer because it just won't be worth watching any more!

From the link, "She is just one of the many former Pirhana players now playing in WUSA and joins forwards Mia Hamm and Pretinha in the Freedom squad."

I'm just amused that we somehow mysteriously picked up Pretinha again ;)

Given he found it that urgent to use a discovery player on her, it makes me even more inclined to think that Bai and Pu will not be back for next season. Also, she is an offensive player, and given the Freedom's needs are on defense, that also makes me think they are not counting on the Chinese, or Makinen for that matter

Well if you read this it sounds like Mak will be around and Jim is hoping she turns it around

Those statements actually make me more inclined to think she (Makinen)is on the bubble. For someone with her salary not to start, is a complete waste of cap room. Not to mention the fact he named all of those players who she was splitting time with. (one of whom was a reserve)

    depends on the season
    and now, back to Kelly

    "Australia Cup
26/01/2003 - Australia beats South Korea as referee halts game

AUSTRALIA 2 (Kelly Golebiowski 10', 76') defeated SOUTH KOREA 0

The Matildas won their opening match of the Australia Cup 2-0 tonight over South Korea in Canberra, but a magnificent pair of Kelly Golebiowski goals was overshadowed by the dramatic circumstances which brought about the early ending of the clash."

Go Kelly! Sounds like she's real pumped up.
