To add some rumors. It has been mentioned before in the german media and according to this article http://www.pnn.de/Pubs/sport/pageviewer.asp?TextID=9932 Conny Pohler might come to the Atlanta Beat. I'll translate the last part of the article:
Pohlers Name: Conny Pohlers Birthday: 16.11.1978 in Halle/Saale Height: 1,63 m (5’5 ?) Weight: 54 kg Team: 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam Position: forward I don't know too much about her. Typical forward/striker. Rather small and quick. There are days where she could definately be better in using her chances to score. Is playing in the national team since 2001 (11 games/7 goals). Due to the number of forwards available in Germany she isn’t a constant member in the national team. Most goals in last „Bundesliga“-season (27 goals) and currently 2nd with 13 goals. Is member in the military (sports company) that's where she has gotten her knee injury.
Thanks for the heads-up. We could use another really quick forward. I hope her English isn't too bad, but there are plenty of German speakers in Atlanta.
My ex-girlfriend from Germany said that almost all the young in Germany speak good English.. But she lied a lot about many things and that's why she's my EX! She did sometimes tell the truth so maybe this is true.
Not true liar! This is interesting: http://www.aeiou.co.uk/deutschermichel/articles/article-01e02e.htm
That is a very interesting site. I get DW TV via the local university and it is very interesting knowing what Germans think of the US. They like the Simpsons...so do I, thus I love Germans, thus I must love Conny Puhlers! Hey, as long as she scores those goals!
Didn't see it somewhere else, kicker had this in the news today: POHLERS SIGNS WITH ATLANTA BEAT National player Conny Pohlers of German Vice-Champion 1.FFC Turbine Potsdam signed a two year contract with Atlanta Beat and will score goals for them in the US American pro-league WUSA from April on. "Great that I got the giant chance to play in maybe the best league of the world. That's a big adventure for me", said the national player with 11 caps, who already travels to the training camp to Atlanta in March. The club from Georgia's capital finished fourth last season. At the beginning of April the new season starts.
Go look at what Woody-99 posted a long time ago. She, according to that bio, is a forward. No telling what Thomas will do with her though. It will be interesting to see how much she is integrated into the lineup during the preseason. Or will Thomas stick with the usual Parlow/Hooper lineup?
Tommy should put three up top because Hooper needs the help. Cindy just doesn't move enough to help. She gives up when the ball is taken away. Hope this gal is as good as Brigit.
I don't know what games you have been watching but Cindy is one of the hardest workers on the team, She wins ball back after they are lost, by herself or others, more often than any other forward, except maybe Burt. That is not to say that three up top is a bad idea. I have liked the way the Beat plays with Cindy central as a target and two players working the wings.
I watch as many as I can and Cindy is one of the laziest players on the Beat. When she does lose a ball, she makes a lame attempt trying to retrieve it and her last ditch effort is to slide tackle the player. If Cindy played like you think she does, why is Hooper asking for help. quote "I cannot do it by myself" Isolate on her play and you will see what I mean.
I agree. CP is hot and cold. When she is on... she is one of the best in the world... but she isn't consistent. She has the talent and ability to contribute much more than she did in 2002. She had several injuries, which was a bit new to her and I think it really hindered her physically and mentally. Hopefully, she will play up to expectations in 2003.
Pohlers injury--False Alarm Rest easy Beat fans, it appears that Pohlers injury was lost in translation so to speak. My sources tell me that there is no knee cap that needs to grow back or anything serious like that. It turns out that Pohlers landed on her knee hard at training and it filled up with fluid. It was swolleen enough for her to miss China Cup preparation and thus, the tournament. She will resume training in a week and should be 100% by the time she gets to Atlanta. I am very excited to see this player team up with Hooper and Sawa.
Here's a pic with little info from Potsdam's homepage: http://www.ffc-turbine.de/index2.php?tinyframe=true The injury was nothing major I think. Regarding the wish to have found another Birgit Prinz is a bit far fetched. Birgit is several times Player of the Year in Germany, European Player of the Year, second in the World Player of the Year choice - that's too much for Conny. I got to admit that I would have expected others to make the jump to WUSA before, but her scoring rate is simply excellent - and that's what's the job of a forward
Injury Sorry, if my translation left a wrong impression. It is definately not a typical football knee injury. It didn't even happen while playing football. While participating in a military training she fell on her knee with heavy baggage on her back. As mentioned here ( http://www.maerkischeallgemeine.de/?loc=3_5_1&id=94784&weiter=250 ) she suffered an injury of her kneecap. It's called "Absplitterung" in german, it's no real fracture just some splinters from her kneecap.
Good choice, Atlanta. You got one of the best strikers in Europe from one of the best National team. She is a first-class striker with great speed.
