Liverpool have earmarked November's international break as the time to move into their new training facility in Kirkby. The Reds were initially slated to make the switch from the iconic Melwood base in July, with last season supposed to be the final campaign at the site that has been their home since the 1950s. However, construction on the new £50million ground was halted because of the coronavirus pandemic shortly after the suspension of football earlier this year. https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/spo...erpool-complete-much-anticipated-50m-19169868

The romance of Melwood will live long, but it was time to get everybody at one facility. And at Kirkby lookie-loo locals and opposition scouts can't stand on trash bins and see the tactics we're working on during training.

Beach...... in Kirby? I remember Kirkby as a sleepy village, a nice old style church and pretty churchyard. A few nice cottages and couple of cozy pubs. Then BAM!!! What happened, “Progress” happened and turned it into an instant slum. I worked there in the Industrial Estate in my early 20s. Had to step over the Forman when I left. (Another story) Still I have these memories of a few of us kids and my puppy walking the hedge rows checking for bird nests. Sitting in the church yard under the ubiquitous yew tree, eating our butties and sipping our orange juice (made from government issue concentrate.) Bucolic Britain. Now if you stop and listen you can hear the sparrows coughing.
