I'm glad to see them moving this along, although the cynic in me reads this as a press release to try and drum up a sponsor

The locals have a point, though. It's a tough balancing act but I'm not surprised this has been denied.
You know, having watched cities here bend over backwards - grabbing land, building new freeways, roads and ramps, giving tax breaks...to these billionaires who blackmail them by threatening to move their sports franchises...it's actually refreshing to see a city put it's citizens first.
Its an interesting discussion. My first thought is good, as least they won't be tearing up the pitch. Its my understanding that Liverpool doesn't have a large concert stadium venue, so there is apparently a need for it. The cynic in me thinks the city is using the "concerns" of locals as a convenient reason to deny this, so they can push these extra events to the Ev's new ground, assuming it gets built, because they have a financial interest in it.
Money for old rope and all that, the stadium was built in Stanley Park then the locals would not have an issue however Anfield in its current location you can see the point of view of ye locals Liverpool the city lose out on a prime location for major events which benefits the community to an extent......the infrastructure is there do deal with 60k fans so it's a strange one
I was at Anfield for a game in March and both before and after the match the area around the ground is literally jammed with ppl. The roads are clogged by 50,000 plus coming and going , its difficult for cars/busses etc to move and I can see how game days would be a nightmare for local residents and the stadium is still surrounded by mostly residential homes. Tbh I think the location of Evertons new ground down in the dock area in a more commercial/industrial setting will be less disruptive on games days and for whatever other stadium uses..
Last couple of times I was at Anfield nearly every second house had opened up their front yard to sell a front lawn parking space. Quite entrepenurial that .... but I thinkwith the traffic access changes in the last ten years that's no longer so easy to work...

I agree. Anfield is already in use 40+/- times a year.... give people a break if that's what the locals want. However - someone has greased the wheels and now it's a goer..................
