Commish Peterson on Ultras Alive last night. Some pretty good stuff there. http://www.blogtalkradio.com/soccersupportersradionetwork/2013/10/08/ultras-alive-110 Some interesting comments on Twitter on the interview: @UltrasAlive the way @NASLBPeterson hesitates mentioning @MLS by name is hilarious. If you really wanna challenge don't act all insecure Commissioner Peterson thinks an MLS team could leave MLS and join NASL. Wow. That's about all I can say. Shocking statement. And apparently the Cosmos love affair continues, as the lone group who supports Peterson, here is their take: NASL In Good hands – Bill Is In Charge! http://cosmossoccerfan.com/2013/10/07/nasl-in-good-hands-bill-is-in-charge/
And now you can't use the word "minority" as in opposite of "a majority" without morons accusing you of being racist. It's like they didn't listen in grammar class.
I listened to the interview, and well, I don't get Billy. He talks a lot about being relevant globally, you're not going to do that in a league playing in baseball stadiums and college football stadiums, especially not when the average is less than 5k a game. Amd if he really thinks someone would leave MLS for the NASL, there's no hope.
Peterson is an unprofessional twit who has been part of some of the biggest failures in alternative sports leagues. I didn't like the hire when it was announced and like it even less now. He lacks both the professionalism, and the quality, to be commissioner of anything successful.
If your still hungry for some Bill Peterson and NASL Talk, here you go. Special guests Kartik and Yankee Boy, with The Tailgate Show Hosts Pauly, Justin and Chris. Start around min 35. http://www.blogtalkradio.com/954tailgate/2013/10/10/the-tailgate-show-s2
Well I guess this cements it...the NASL needs a new commissioner before anything crazier is said or done. I like how the USSF D2 standards have helped provide stability to the NASL. I think we need a stable commissioner too - where are the standards for that?
Are you refering to the statements on twitter by the commish or did he say something else on the tailgate show? Didnt get a chance to listen yet.
listen to his interview on Ultras Alive this past Monday night. show #110 the guy seems just a little disconnected.
What speedcake said... nothing new in the tailgate show, the Ultras Alive is what I was referencing. Mr. speedcake is being nice by saying he seems a little disconnected. This guy loses a lot of credibility when he says things like a MLS team could move to the NASL in the future. Fortunately for the league, nobody really follows the league so it won't do too much damage, if any at all. It just hurts the current supporters of the league to hear their fearless leader say so many stupid, stupid things! Next, he may opine that the big 4 in the EPL could join the NASL or even better yet...the NASL will form a global league with the world's global soccer powers! I think they just need to show another few pictures of the commish juggling a soccer ball in a suit to demonstrate how much of a soccer guy he really is...then all will be right with the world.
Especially since MLS doesn't have any franchises to pick up and move from one place to another. An owner can be bought out of his share in MLS, but the team stays where it is since MLS as a corporation owns all the teams in the league.
Well it's more complicated than that. The local owner/investor owns his team but the league does have oversight. When you spend 10, 50, 70, 100 million to join a league there is never going to be pro/rel.
Well IMHO some owners wouldn't mind a promotion, just like some owners go for self-relegation, but like you say, a pro/rel like in England or France is out of the question
You're talking about NASL/USL owners. No MLS owner I know wants any part of pro/rel And anyone on a lower level wouldn't mind promotion - especially when they don't have pay a huge expansion fee. As far as self-relegation, that's just a business decision that tacitly acknowledges that the level of play in NASL/USL Pro is secondary to providing local entertainment alternatives.
Of course, minor league soccer franchise owners. MLS owners would have nothing to win and everything to lose
Legally speaking the league only owns the players (Contracts), the other assets that make up a team are owned by the Investor Operators (not sure who owns the brands). So at most the league could pull the players, and even with Chivas USA that seems iffy since many are loans from the parent club. This may work in a similar way with NYFC.
Sorry, but I beg to differ a little bit, IMHO some franchise owners fully understand their limitations, moving up is great, but only if it makes sense
At first NASL said to the public that all their teams weren't interested in moving up. Then the Scorps started sniffing around and now Minnesota... I think many of them are interested. If its possible.
