someone mentioned that Avaya naming rights end in 2019? Hubby and I speculated who would want the Quakes naming rights. He says it would have to be a company that sells directly to consumers. He thinks Avaya was a strange choice because they don’t sell to consumers. (I didn’t research whether this is true.) Anyhow, we figure the Quakes will exercise their usual judgment and pick some company that is going to go bankrupt, such as: Tesla (his opinion) Sears (my opinion) More suggestions? What’s the going rate for stadium naming rights, anyway?
"Is the Earthquakes’ stadium about to get a name change?" (San Jose Mercury News - Saturday, 12/2/17) The current naming rights end at the conclusion of this season. I'm guessing that if a new naming rights sponsor isn't found by then, the stadium will be renamed San Jose Earthquakes Stadium or somesuch until one is finally found, similarly to the formerly-named Columbus Crew Stadium and the currently-named Orlando City Stadium. As for who that new naming rights sponsor will be: I have no idea at the moment. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Isn't it Tom Fox's job to work on things like that? I would be fine with a well known silicon valley company buying in on it, a company someone has actually heard of..Intel Stadium, Tesla Stadium (unlikely).....Wells Fargo.....Visa .....Cisco....Netflix.... Be happier if it was Lagunitas (or Sierra Nevada....but that's just me) (please no apple, facebook, twitter or google.....or a pyramid scheme.)
Public company he doesn’t own in totality but I would rather have some name than no name. Same thing applies to shirt sponsor. I fear we will have empty shirts playing at “SJ Earthquakes Stadium” next year.
Ironically, "Fisher's Gap" is the term used to describe the point difference between our place at the bottom of the standings and the team above us.
If we enter next season with the same braintrust, the expected number of attendees for home games could make this a potential winner...
