Yes, thats true say goodbye to "Superliga Galp Energia" and say hello to "Liga Betandwin.com" --» http://www.maisfutebol.iol.pt/noticia.php?id=572844&div_id=1676
Well, hopefully this new sponsor can inject a lot of money into our league, and maybe even get us some recognition abroad, as betandwin are known better than Galp Energia.
Uhh...am I the only one that see something wrong with a sports league and a gambling syndicate in bed together?
As long as the bed is big enough for both and nobody fights for a piece of the blanket i am cool with it.
I guess somebody else sees a problem as well. Paes Afonso calls this deal of ilegal. http://www.abola.pt/nnh/index.asp?op=ver¬icia=86842&tema=1
I find it very funny, in a country that has long had a history of corruption we get a gambling company as a sponsor for our biggest Sports League... This is really funny stuff This is almost like having Marlboro lead your Cancer awareness campaign... The reality is they already have Totobola and the like so this is nothing new... But with the constraints on Player's Salaries the way they are in Portugal how soon before we see rumours of game fixing and the like... Doesn't take much to tell a player from Estoril Praia to play like crap for a few thousand Euros (I am just using them as an example) I would hope the Superliga players have some integrity...but can we expect them to have it when Club Officials for the most part don't...
I understand your logic, JLR, but I just find the whole thing odd. I guess from a North American point of view, we would never see, say, the NFL Super Bowl, for example, sponsored by some Las Vegas casino and resort. Then again, with rampant corruption in the sports world, this type of thing (leagues sponsored by gambling companies) was bound to happen some time or another. I am sure that the cash infusion will help the league, but I wonder what kind of media awareness it will get - will it be noted for its innovativeness, or will it get backlash? I think more the latter...
This whole thing sounds ridiculous. It will give more people even more reason to not take our league seriously.
Well put. There is one thing that you can not put a dollar value on. The credability of our league would be put in jeopardy. I think our league has enough issues to deal with and do not need another.
I didn't knew what was that name from... So it is a gambling enterprise... lol Maybe it is to help clubs like Felgueiras and Alverca...
So far the joke of the century. Then wonder why we refer to Portuguese government, and other intities there as "Republica Das Bananas" If the government allows this, then UEFA should step in and block this.
Betting companies have sponsored teams before and it's never been a problem. I honestly think some of you need not be so cynical about this. What's worse. Loureiro out of prison or betandwin.com as a sponsor?
We have seen betting companies sponsor teams and also Casinos sponsoring teams... I believe Academica had the Casino at Figueira da Foz as a sponsor, and Benfica had Casino Estoril... They big difference is that the Casino's don't have Sports Betting...betandwin.com have everything... If you feel the need to wager on the Superliga...here goes... https://www.betandwin.com/betsnew.aspx?SportID=4
So has Casino Estoril sponsored the Lampioes, and it wasn't last season. I see no problem with sponsoring a team, but were talking about a league here.

Will they pass out "Funny Money" so we can do some betting What are the "odds" this press conference will get cancelled You want to "bet" there will be some protestors...
I have no problem with it. My only question is, do we call the league, "SuperLiga", or do we now call it, "betandwin.com Liga"?
Simply "Primeira Liga", ignore the sponsors, the English call their league the "Premier League" they don´t call it the "Barclays Premier League" or something like that.
I just think that any issues that the leagu emay have this year will be automatically associated with the sponsoi. Additionally, we may lose even more respect from the other countries
