I haven't seen anything official, just signs pointing that way. 1. Both Nike and Capri-Sun had ads on the ESPN2 Soccer Saturday. The only other ads were from the other MLS sponsors, such as US Soccer Foundation and Panasonic and Honda. 2. In both Spartan Stadium and the Home Depot Center, a Nike sign boardis prominantly placed toward the center of the field, with the other MLS sponsors. If they are MLS sponsors, does that mean DC United and the Metrostars finally have jersey sponors?
Nike is the San Jose uniform supplier. The home team's uniform supplier has always had prominent signage at all MLS games.
I think I saw a McDonalds signboard the last two weeks too. MLS had RadioShack and Panasonic boards up last year before they officially announced deals, so it's possible. Is CapriSun owned by PepsiCo?
I hope not, I don't really notice them anymore on other teams but I think DC's uniforms this year are the best they've ever had.
Well, Capri Sun, Ritz and Oreo are Kraft Food brands. Kraft food is a new sponsor to the league for this year.
Yeah, I think they have one at Crew Stadium, too. But those could very well just be local sponsorships. The commercials during the national broadcasts are what convinces me.
Signboards on the far side of the field when you watch on tv are league sponsors. Signboards behind the goals can go either way, as I've seen. Nearside signboards are local sponsors. The McDonald's sign (and Oreo, and Ritz) were on the far side of the field.
That may be true - but those Nike sign boards looked new to me too - I don't remember seeing them like that before.
--Like he said the uniform supplier has always had a significant presence. Nike has new signboards out that look like the new ball they're introducing.
