With defensive injuries, Ange should adjust the tactics to playing a low block. This is typically how teams with less defensive power still defend well and can win games. Nottingham have low possession and low passes (in the PL) yet are able to get wins and punch above their weight, by playing more defensive. Ange refused to adjust to the reality of his situation. West Ham have 27 pts with a -16 goal differential. While we have 24 pts with a +9 GD. Goal difference is somewhat important, but it is secondary to points. Points are king. We need points!
It looks to me like Ange has come to Jesus. He was pragmatic. This was a smart, thought out approach that allowed Spurs to control the game even though United kept much of the ball. I had said his decision to go 5 at the back was stupid given there was quite a bit of time left on the clock, but it proved the right call. Vicario looked too vulnerable in the air. The back 5 meant he no longer had to come out to collect balls. Plus, it gave Spurs more time to settle into that shape before Man U decided to throw the kitchen sink, before the chaos took hold. By making that change in formation sooner, it lessened the chaos. Against a 10-man Lyon, Maguire was unmarked and scored the winner late on. Here against Spurs, he was a marked man. Even Casemiro, with the last gasp effort, had to take his chance from a rather wide angle and his back against goal. Ange did a great job of managing the game. That was the difference maker that won the game. He really understood how games like these are won, something I don't think I ever saw with Poch. When I think back on why Spurs missed out on the EPL title in 2016 or the UCL final in 2019, it had a lot to do with Poch not doing what Ange got right in this final. I still think there are some issues with him as the manager, but if he gets the right staff around him, and he's open to the right suggestions, I actually think you might have yourselves a really top manager.
Postecoglou the right man for Spurs - Kulusevski BBC https://www.bbc.com › sport › football › articles "29 Jan 2025 — Tottenham winger Dejan Kulusevski says manager Ange Postecoglou retains the backing of the players and is the "right man" for the club." Yes, I agree. Well done Kulu.
He made the best use of the players that were available. I don't think fans want to see that approach every game (though we may learn to love it if it continues to bring trophies). The trick, if Ange gets the chance, will be to combine solid defense with the free flowing attack we love to see. I think one key to that is getting midfielders who can work their way through a press without stupid turnovers which lead to easy goals for the opposition. (One question is whether all the turnovers are the result of poor players, or otherwise good players making mistakes because they are wiped out from playing two games a week for long stretches.) Another key is figuring out why we always leave men unmarked at the back post. That's why I said in another post that Ange needs to articulate (to those deciding his fate) his plan to fix these problems. I think potential solutions exist (not claiming to know what they are, lol) and Ange deserves a chance to get it right. And of course the other question is why the entire team will come out flat and completely underperform when playing "inferior" teams. That has affected other managers as well. We can only hope that winning a trophy will change the mentality at the club, no matter who the manager is next season. At any rate, it's nice of the club to hold off on the sacking until after the victory parade.
It's one thing to play that style against mediocre teams, but in the CL, he will get shredded. I agree that he deserves his moment in the sun at the parade and on Sunday, but after that, as we say in Greek, exharisto kai kalo taxidi, Angelo!
Sounds like Ange wants to stay. He just said that on all the good shows, the third season is better than the second. Que sera, sera.
We will never be in a better position to get a good manager coming off a Europa League and CL qualification. If we keep him, we are just kicking the can down the road and will have pissed away a magnificaent opportunity to take the next step.
Premier League boss becomes strong contender to replace Ange Postecoglou as Tottenham manager Alex Crook, Chief Football Correspondent, talkSPORT Published: 22:47, 25 May 2025 Updated: 23:05, 25 May 2025 Here's the article. What's he ever won?
If Ange is sacked no coach in his right mind would accept the Spurs job surely. Every coach in Europe knows we won the Europa so every coach must think that if he comes here and wins a trophy then he too could be sacked. What would be the incentive besides money for anyone to come knowing that could be the case?
To be fair, I dont think any coach anywhere would presume his job secure if he loses 24 games, trophy or not. I'm not saying Ange can't make a case for keeping his job, but if Levy wants to go another direction, his case is at least as strong. No one's going to say 'but, why?'.
