in 6 hours the new jerseys will be presented here: http://www.umbro.fr/maillots-ol.php fellow mod inara has written about it on her blog http://lyon.theoffside.com/team-news/omg-ze-colours.html#more-830, that's where i stole these color swatches. _______home___________ away_________ ___ europe_______ if they're not accurate don't blame me, blame her ... but if you don't like them, there she can't help you, she's not fond of them either. i think these would be alright, but especially for the yellow it will depend on the shorts and socks they match it up with
Ugly… There's a new law forcing car drivers to have a yellow jacket from July 1st 2008, i thought that with Puel Lyon were not a formula one any more…
those pics look genuine, not shopped... the giveaway is the folds in the fabric: not only is each one different, but the logos follow the drape perfectly. the OL motif inside the white is also a detail no PS'er would do for one and not for the others. so what can i say... i hate them. all of them. the white looks cheapy, and if there's one thing you can say about the white jerseys now, they have a classy finished look to them. and it was time to change the position of the stripes; obviously not scapulaires right now, but horizontal would have been nice. that color blue i can live with; OL won their first silverware of the century in it! but this design is too bare. if it wasn't for the sponsor (the one word Ticket is an improvement anyway) it would look like a generic practice jersey. finally, that yellow is just too fluorescent, it looked horrible on barça, but at least it was original... then; this is just the height of tastelessness, period. and it just doesn't go with the stripes at all. a sunflower yellow, say with silver or gray shorts and some spiffy way of integrating the red and blue into the kit, would have had possibilities, but this is just so wrong.
someone on the olweb forums got his mitts on this. looks like someone working at the OLstore may have papperazzied this... anyway, my young'un drops in there most every day after school, and he's been telling me these would be the colors, except he thought the blue would be like this year's barça turquoise.
I like the new kits but I'm someone who doesnt quite understand how or or why the way it works in Europe. I grew up following American sports where uniforms actually mean something and certain teams use the same ones for years and in soccer they change the kits every year. Also OL's colors are red, white, and blue so it doesnt make sense to me why then they would have yellow kits. That would be like the NY Yankees wearing orange tops on Sundays. It would never happen. Again, since I grew up in the US none of this stuff seems normal to me. Its bad enough that you have to get used to the ads on the front and back of the tops but at least I can understand why thats done. So yeah, European soccer kits/uniforms/whatever really dont mean anything to me. I could care less about it.
actually american sports teams do change their uniforms, and sometimes they can be godawful. it's true that the uniforms are always in the team colors... but these have been known to change as well... the warriors for example. right now baseball is on a big tradition kick, but in the 70's things were wide open. the advertising i found unfortunate at first, but after a while you get used to it. but bad taste, no one gets used to.
Yes I know American teams change uniforms but not every single year like in Europe. No your'e right about a few teams having alternate uniforms with colors that arent the traditional team colors. Its mostly black like with the Mets and Celtics.
I'm disappointed OL didn't stick with the classier black Euro shirts just when they were starting to forge an identity with them. It just looks like a copy of Barca now, especially FCB's current away kit. Look it up: the two are practically identical. Then again, what does it matter what kit OL play in for the Champions League; we all know they'll underwhelm in the first knockout round anyway. Would have preferred a thicker stripe for the home kit. I agree it looks a bit cheap.
I wish they would do something like this kit I love that kit as for the new ones White = thumbs down blue = i'll give it a chance green = no comment
rock, i think your pic didn't stick... that's not green btw, no way it would be anything resembling green. my son saw them all yesterday in the flesh (so to speak) at the OL store. the taste of 14 year olds being what it is, he obviously liked them all, and he assures me that even if it's fluorescent, the fact that all the components of the kit are the same color makes the yellow look classy and sober. but he says the blue is the best, that the color and the fabric texture make a very rich effect.
even if i tend to associate the word phoceen with a debilitating disease which turns one's brain turns to seal fat, i have to hand it to this guy. royal!
I don't think the white jersey is that bad. I've always liked the off-center stripe and the novotel logo doesn't hurt my eyes this year.
to understand, first go to my post #3. now don't feel insulted if i'm explaining things you may already know... first, that's karl lagerfeld. he's a german who is a very big name in the french fashion industry. he is the spokesman in an ad campaign about having a reflective vest and triangle in your car, which is mandatory in france starting July 1st, as it has been in most european countries for years. jokes linking this with new jerseys were to be expected, indeed my post and the OM fans' PS cookup are completely independant. the caption in the original version is it's yellow, it's ugly, it doesn't go with anything, but it can save your life. the caption of the spoof is: it's yellow, it's ugly, it doesn't go with anything, and doesn't win anything in europe. voilà!
haha thanks. I've heard of Lagerfeld but didn't know that was him. It's funny and perfect to tie the new French regulation with the new kits.
I was expecting something a lot worse, so that probably explains why I'm okay with these. I would have liked the black to stay, and maybe the change could have been the blue away kit (it's changed three times in three years anyway). The design is okay with a bit sober. The only thing I wish was that there was no white background on the sponsor logo of the away kit. Oh, and that Lyon only had one sponsor on their kits. They look too congested for my liking.
I think the white one is fine. I kind of like it actually. I hate the other two. Especially the yellow. I have to see what shorts they're pairing with those. That could really make it tolerable, or a complete and utter disaster. That spoof is ridiculous. The fact that even lyon fans find that funny is probably a testament to how bad those jerseys are. Speaking of shirt sponsorships, I can't remember when club teams didn't have shirt sponsors, and when they don't it seems weird. They look like they're dressed for a sunday league game.
I don't mind the blue, but HOLY COW the yellow ones are ugly. What are the shorts going to be--black? If you're going to go ugly, go get that maroon/paisley pattern that PSG used a couple of years ago and go with that. You might hurt your opponent's eyes so badly that they won't be able to play.
all the kits are one-color, the shirts and socks will be the same color yellow. there's one advantage: the man with the ball will be able to see teammates out of the corner of his eye more easily, and fewer passing opportunities will be missed... what a shame ben arfa is gone, now that we have a jersey designed with him in mind!
