Sounds decent to me but I am also a bit worried about where the backup keeping situation is going

Seems like a bit of a waste of a S-I roster spot for a guy who conceivably won't be much better in net than we have. Sutton hasn't been spectacular but he hasn't been awful either. Best to use those spots where they can make the most impact on a team struggling for offense.

Pretty sure we signed a backup keeper last week. I thought I remembered reading that he was a younger guy from BC I think.

I agree. There is no reason at all for our backup keeper not to be a Canadian.

You are correct - 24 year old Srdjan Djekanovic.

The 24 year old, doesn't solve the problem as he is under the DEV contract and highly doubt he will push Sutton and certainly can't depend on him when Sutton gets the call to CMNT.
We already tried the backup GK being an SI, but its a waste to take up a spot for a backup role.

and at 17,500 per year....like anyone of quality would sign for that chump change and I doubt MLSE is willing to spend a dime more than it has.

You may be right....but personally I intend to see him play first before I conclude he isn't good enough. As you mention, having an SI as the back-up GK that won't play much is a bit of a waste, but there's honestly not that many Canadian keepers around who could fill that spot (that also wouldn't qualify as a dev. player). Kenny Stamatopolous would be a possibility, but is currently under contract to Tromso in Norway.

    ,

That's roughly £8,750 a year, but as a Championship 'keeper, and a seasoned International, Gabor Kiraly is probably on that or thereabouts a week!

As someone said in a reply to that message, Barthez WAS once married to a Canadian- no longer.

Give Sarge a chance; we need some bargain players- they can't all cost us 200,000 to make bad crosses.
